Section 5A and Two Rivers Conference

Obviously, the teams to beat (again) are Hermantown, Duluth Denfeld and possibly St. Cloud Cathedral in Section 5A. But a number of other schools are worth mentioning. North Brnach of all teams has put together a great start to their season; having twice as many wins as losses (8-4) is not something this team is used to... And, sitting atop of the newly-formed Two Rivers Conference is quite a feat for this team, for now.

However, look to Moose Lake Area, the Burnett Blizzard (Wis.) and even Pine City to challenge the Vikings to be the first-crowned Two Rivers champ. Pine City should not be discounted. They had a rough, rough start to the season (1-7) but have made some neccessary changes -- including goaltending -- and have won their last three in a row. In fact, from the first game of the season to now (mid-way through), Pine City is the most improved team in all of Section 5A and the Two Rivers.

The TR conference champion will be lucky to get a 7 or 8 seed this year and really don't stand much of a chance in sections.
NB's season is really shocking some people. Looks like it will be a two horse race between NB and Moose Lake.
I could see a 7 or 8 beating a overrated Cathedral team though

PC will end the season right in the middle of the conference, and a very low section 5A seed.

As for 5A, Cathedral is down, so it is Hermantown to the big state tourney.

The Two rivers conference will be a three team race, not two. You have to count that team from Wisconsin in the mix. I see they got beat pretty bad by Moose Lake, but some of the other comparing scores show they can skate with them. Should be a close race and something to work for, for some of the weaker teams in MN.
