I think it is section 7 with Virginia, Hibbing, I-falls and Duluth Marshall those r some pretty tough teams.

section 8, warroad , thief river falls, east grand forks, all having a mix up there, warroad being the best team up there but lost to each of them teams this year,by 1 in there rinks , east being the weakest, but I believe they host the sections this year, so anything can happen, but none of them a threat at state, but believe warroad is the 4th best class A in the state, but not in the top 15 combined A and AA

It depends what you mean by tough.

If you mean all around, where any of 4-6 teams have a realistic shot at making it to state, then I would say Section 7 and Section 1 are at the top of my list. Both sections have 4 teams right now I wouldn't be surprised to see making it to state.

If by tough you mean where the teams not seeded #1 will have the most difficult time making it, I would say section 2. Breck is the obvious favorite, beating the probable #2 seed, Blake, 7-1 yesterday. That being said, if they somehow get upset, there are 6 teams who are all pretty even who could have an argument for a top 4 seed.

Have to go with 4A. 5 teams in the top 13 (PS2)

St. Thomas (2)
Mahtomedi (5)
Totino Grace (9)
So. St. Paul (10)
Spring Lake Park (13)

I agree with section 7, Hibbing, Virginia, Int'l Falls, and Duluth Marshal all have quality teams and I see these teams being the final four in the section playoffs.

1A - 7 teams have legitimate chance. But overall, bad section.
2A - 6 teams will fight for a chance to lose to Breck in the final. A lot of average teams.
3A - New Ulm, Hutch, or Litchfield again. Worst section in state history?
4A - STA, Mahtomedi, then a bunch of average teams.
5A - Denfeld, SCC, Rogers and SRR will all fight for the right to beat Htown.
6A - Alex and Sartell. Maybe Willmar, Fergus, and DL.
7A - Best semi's in class A - Virginia, Hibbing, DM, and IFalls.
8A - Two team section (TRF and Warroad).

If I had to rank them based on the top 4-6 teams in each section this is how I see it:
1. 4A (STA, Mahto, SSP, TG, SLP, Johnson)
2. 7A (Virginia, Hibbing, IFalls, Marshall)
3. 5A (Htown, SCC, Rogers, SRR, Denfeld)
4. 2A
5. 8A
6. 1A
7. 6A
8. 3A

4A and 8A are the top 2 Class A sections in the state

1. 4A
2. 7A
3. 5A

No way is 8A in the top 2 but they may be better than 5A. 8A is a two team section.

Section 7 is garbage. Whoever comes out will just get pounded at State like last year. Virginia was beat by an AVERAGE Little Falls team. Section 4 is probably the toughest in terms of quality teams that have a chance to make it to state.

Top 3 sections in no order

Breck 16-2, Blake 14-6, Delano 13-6

Section 4 top 3 teams
STA 14-4, Mahtomedi 15-4, Spring Lake Park 16-4

Section 5 top 3 teams
Hermantown 17-2, Duluth Denfeld 11-9-1, St. Cloud Cathedral 11-6

Garbage huh? Tough words, and actually Virginia, Hibbing, and Int'l Falls can compete with any of these teams from 4A, reason they dont is distance especially for Int'l Falls it take 2 hours to even get to a section game. All 3 teams have solid teams. I think you should choose your words a little better. Section 4 barely Plays Section 7 at all so don't judge until you've played, come up and play one of these teams, they'll show you what good northern mn hockey is all about.

Prolly not this year considering Virginia got smoked by Mahtomedi, The Falls haven't beaten anyone, and Hibbing has lost to Robbinsdale Armstrong and Chaska.

And dont forget about Marshall in 7A, sure their record is nothing special but they have gone into OT with hermantown and just beat Theif River Falls. With them you have 4 solid teams in 7A. There is no way you can call that garbage

That is just my point, these teams don't play either other enough for you to say things like that. You can't really say the Falls haven't beat anyone when that isn't true if anything they've been nothing but improving as well as virginia and hibbing. Don't cross your T's and dot your I's just yet. You'll see.

best single a section

For me I drive almost anywhere for a good section semifinal or final game. I live about two miles from the iowa border and drive as far as duluth to see playoff hockey. For my money, or gas, I would love to see section 5 play. Hermantown is really good, but a good goaltender in Duluth Denfeld, and a reputation at Saint Cloud Cathedral makes this a great section to watch. Then there is Sauk Rapids and Rogers who have beaten the elite teams in the section. This would make for a great section tournament.

Then there is section 7. There is the powerhouse team in Virginia and then there are three other teams that could easily be argued to be in the top twenty rankings for single a. They are Duluth Marshall, Hibbing, and Int Falls. All three of these teams have shown they can defeat the ranked teams. Virginia has goal scorers and a good goalie. Duluth Marshall gas a decent goalie and average scoreres. Int Falls has a good goalie and good goal scorers. Hibbing has struggled with goaltending this year, but it has improved over the year and they have goal scorers as well. If I was in this section I would be very nervous about playing Hermantown. Then I would be concerned about playing a team with a great recent history of playoff hockey in Duluth Marshall. What a great section here also.

Then there is section 1 and section 2. I could write another book about these two sections but you get the point. Any of the first two sections would be fantastic and the second two would be pretty good also.

Well actually 'My Team' beat all three of these schools this year. I never said anything about being from the south. :)

Hibbing and Virginia both lost to Minnetonka
Virginia and I falls both lost to Hermantown (Hibbing plays them later)
Hibbing beat rapids while the Falls ties them and Virginia tied and lost in a penalty filled game

So who is your "team?"

Exactly, the figures don't add up. hshockeyfan53 you need to rethink that thought and try again. :P
