I happened to be looking at some facebook stuff and just had to post this - seams the recruting has given the some people a false sense of accomplishment. Just take a look at how there youth teams are doing with the win colum and number of players - funny Should ask him how many of the girl players are actually from Warroad. Born and Raised compared to Roseau.
Look what this meatball posted on his wall, Congradulation to the Warroad and Roseau girls hockey teams for making it to the state hockey tournment. Hats off to the roseau school staff for realizing they could not beat Warroad so they took the easier route with teams of lessor talent in the AA bracket. This is not unlike the route they took in boys hockey sever...al years ago when they lost in the class A section several years in a row.

Its ironic how Roseau claimed to be jumping up to play with the big dogs (AA) when it was merely an attempt to run away from the team that kept keeping them out of the tourney in the mid to late 1990s (A-Warroad). I would assume this is the reason the girls moved up this year as well...

But in 1998 & 1999 Warroad disappeared but Roseau showed up in the AA big show....

Maybe they were running from East Grand Forks?????

In 1998 Roseau won the Section 8AA tourney and finished 4th at the state tourney, out of their 5 losses that season 2 were at the hands of Warroad (3-1, 2-1) while Warroad was beat by EGF in the section finals I believe. In 1999 when Roseau won the AA tourney they beat Warroad twice that year (3-0, 6-1).

So... you picked 4 years 95-98 to prove your point (Warroad winning 9 of 11 mentioned match ups). I would think if you looked hard enough over the years, one could find a stretch where the other side won a similar amount of times, but none of it would prove that one side is scared of the other. Like it was already asked, if Warroad continues to field a solid program year in and out, why doesn't Warroad just opt up with the big boys??? Out side of facing each other, who has a more competitive schedule - top to bottom?

OK, Warroads argument is always Roseau opted up to escape Warroad's domination. Therefore Warroad could take care of that by opting up also and proving the domination. If Roseau moved back down, then Warroad could rightly say we told you so. Until then, many of us who do not live anywhere near Waroad or Roseau will respect Roseau for moving up to compete with the big schools, and keeping A more competive for the average smaller schools. Roseau is a AA class act.

One could argue that Warroad is running away from Roseau for not opting up. I can't imagine what it must feel like to win (or lose) in front of the lower bowl of the X! I am betting not as good as winning (or losing) in front of the whole X! Warroad will continue to enjoy their free rides to the tournament and play for a smaller crowd while Roseau plays with the big boys and impresses thousands more! Roseau in my book deserves much more respect than Warroad will ever get from me!

I agree with Pucklvr on this. It doesn't make much sense to "run away" from Warroad by going into a section with Moorhead in it. I would like to see Warroad accomplish what Roseau has the last decade in AA. If Warroad wants to keep bashing Roseau for running away from them, why don't they opt up to prove that they are better?

The topic of this thread is all wrong! It should read "Warroad No Class"

We have to remember that this is high school, not the pros. Roseau is determined to win with home grown talent. They probably had to consider the jump to get around the runaway recruiting to the east.

PageStat says Warroad at #43 this year and Roseau at #45. They both play Class A schedules, Roseau simply plays in the AA tourney.

Warroad and Roseau....the argument continues.
Roseau did move to AA at a time when they were beating up on most of the teams in 8aa. It was also at a time when Warroad was beating up on them. A little before this, Roseau wouldn't even schedule Moorhead, not becuase they were scared Moorhead, it was because they didn't think Moorhead could compete with them.

If I said that 8a was actually tougher than 8aa, most people would laugh and ridicule me. If you look at, what is the difference??? not much. The big difference is "AA". When a team is in AA they are automatically viewed just a few steps better than an A team. This is especially true if you are comparing an A team to a AA team. Now compare the whole section, 8AA or 8A........
The real difference for Roseau and Warroad is when they get to the State Tournement. Now Roseau has to compete mostly with schools that have an enrollment bigger than the population of their town. Because of how the MSHSL mis-manages class A, if is likely that when Warroad goes to state, they will play at least one game against a team that is completely overmatched.

Warroad bugs me. But they're a legit Class A team that many people want to move up.

How about Warroad 2nd class?

Basis being? Can't keep up with the 1st class passengers (Roseau).

Let's put this sillyness to rest once and for all. Roseau does not care where Warroad plays and we do not do things in our program with Warroad in mind. Roseau has 7 big school state championships. Warroad zero! Roseau has been to the state tournament more times than Warroad has by a lot and none of Roseau state appearances were because of slipping in through the back door, they have always won their section. Roseau has proved over the years that they belong playing with the big schools, winning state championships twice in the 90's and recently in 2007. We are playing where we belong, because we can. Warroad is playing where they belong because the couldn't. Plain and simple. This is not a slam on Warroad. I look forward to the time when both teams win state championships in the same year and the best teams in the state are located 21 miles apart and have one of the best rivalries in the nation.

Is there a place to find out what schools have opted up? The only one you hear about is Roseau.

I think the little towns of Hill-Murray, BSM and maybe Cretin Durham Hall also opted up.

That's just because you don't like hearing about the town of 3000 moving up and the school that draws from about 3.5 million maintaining chicken status...or would you prefer cowards status?

It bugs me that there are schools who can choose their students based on athletic qualities while denying kids not so gifted, and then claim Class A status because of enrollment size.
