sad to think people rip on 18 old

I just joined this forum tonight after reading the coments on G.H. I have played hockey at all levels (ex. NHL) and coached for 11 yrs. It is sad that people would write what they did knowing anybody could read it. Just imagine if that was your kid everybody was talking about or if your kid logged on and read the coments. How do think he is feeling? Remember, these are just kids!

Agreed, as hockey fans and Minnesotans we should be proud of our players. The way some of these guys(most of the time jealous parents)degrade these kids is mind blowing.

Some of the comments on that topic were uncalled for, but (no offence to garrett) most of the comments were just pointing out that he did not perform as well as he should have potentially performed in the game against Hermantown. For example, my comment was nothing personal, I was just stating how he did not stand out during the game. But dont get me wrong, I agree that a thread started for the sole purpose of trash talking any one person or team (unless its a private school

) is uncalled for.

You can't protect kids from every little piece of criticism in the world.
There is a difference between ripping on a kid as an overall person and limiting a critique a performance in a game, etc

Thats different, as those are mostly players there.

That's pretty much the deal here. If we were talking about college players or pro players, it's a different situation.
Also, there is sometime a thin line between "critiquing a performance in a game" and the type of thing it all too often disintegrates into. You know, "so and so sucks", "so and so is overrated", "so and so is arrogant and so is his dad".
Every time a topic pops up concerning a player or comparing two players, it can get dicey.

I am so glad first of all that that topic got locked, it was WAY out of line. Garrett is a great player, did he play his best game at the X, no, but it wasn't an awful game either. Garrett is a great leader on that team and makes things happen on the ice, even if its not him shooting the puck, and more importantly he cares about his team, has a great attitude, and works very hard. I can't believe that grown men (and women?), and some kids, would come on her to specifically put down one player in such a harsh way, you all need to get a life if that's what you come on here for. These players are simply KIDS doing what they love to do, they shouldn't be subjected to that.

I'll tell you what pissed me off? When my kid is the best player on the team, playing the most minutes, creating most of the goals and preventing them.
And then he makes one mistake and I can hear them b*tching and complaining about it. I just bite my tongue.

nothing was meant by that topic. he is what the seventh leading scorer in class A. and going D1. Anyone that is going D1 and signed as a junior is going to be watched closely. Some may say he lead his team to state, but that was not started by a range person, someone who heard about him and probably expected more. I've seen him play for a few years now

I agree. I will be one of the first people to admit that garrett is a great player, perhaps one of the best in the state. But his performance at state wasnt nearly as impressive as he is capable of.

yeah, I've seen him score the go ahead and game winning goals off nice shots. People need to calm down a bit on here.
