Roseau is the "Capital of the State of Hockey"

When the dust settled and the votes were counted, Roseau was named the "Capital of the State of Hockey", in the Minnesota Wild contest. Numerous professionals, Olympians and collegiates players plus a high school team with the most state tournament appearances and the most state championships, plus large numbers in the youth program that are state contenders at some level each year, all contribute to this honor. A program that has been around since the start and still contends at the AA level with and enrollment of only around 300. Thanks Wild, what a great contest and even though I am a bit biased, a very deserving winner!!!

You left out residents who have nothing better to do all day than vote in an online poll.

You're right. I'm sure folks in Edina and other populated suburbs don't vote much. Each of Roseau's citizens would have to vote about 20-30 times to match Edina's.

Couldn't help noticing the Golden Gopher needed to go to Wisconsin to find the correct grammar usage!

if roseau is the capital of the state of hockey, and minnesota is the best hockey state in the USA, then wouldn't roseau be considered hockeytown USA?
Warroad will say that they have that title. So Roseau will be known as HOCKEYTOWN US AA!!!
good on ya'

There wasn't a very good strategy to this contest because frankly you can sit there and keep voting which I'm sure Roseau had to do to win that contest. At least if your going to let people vote limit it to once a day. This was a bit of a joke. And as for Warroad or Roseau being the hockey capital, its already been established that Eveleth MN is just that.

So mnhockeynemn, you are assuming that Roseau was the only place where people could sit and vote over and over again? You are saying that a small town like Roseau has the population base to outvote, the much larger communities? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

As much respect as I have for Roseau, I think the true "Capitol" of the State of Hockey is Plymouth/Wayzata/Minnetonka (all in one area)
There have to be more elite hockey players concentrated in that corner of Hennepin County than anywhere in Minnesota.

For the most part, that has been a trend of the last 5 years or so. Taking history into account, it would have to be a northern town, or St. Paul. Here is a list of NHL players from MN. 14 of the top 25 scorers (and 8 of the top 10) are from sections 7 or 8
