Now that the AAA season is underway, I would be interested in hearing who people think are the top 5 teams in the U10, U12 and U14 age levels.

Anyone have any rankings?

Tough draw for Bauer Supreme 10U - in Pool A this weekend with Velocity, Blades, Machine, and Cougars.

U14 #1 is probably the 96 OS Prospects. They are playing U16 at the independent cup so they will probably stay #1. Most of the other U14s should settle how they fit in behind them this weekend. U14 Gold bracket pool B has the 96 Ice Cats, 95-96 Blades, Lake Superior Stars, and the 95 Jr Badgers. Ice Cats split with the Jr Badgers last weekend beating the 95s 2 to 1 and losing to the 96s 4 to 3. Would not be surprised to see the 2 jr badger teams come out as #1 seeds from the A and B pools. Both are really good teams.

I think trying to rank AAA teams is folly.

Depends on the weekend, which girls are there, which are at the cabin?

In the long run, it doesn't really matter.

"In the long run", none of it really matters. It's interesting, though. And informative.

Royals- do you have any other scores from last weekend?
How did the Jr North Stars & Blades do?

Thanks-
Looking forward for a great weekend of hockey!

Not 100% sure but I think the blades beat the Jr North Stars 2 or 3 to 1. I think the U12 Reebok team beat the Jr Stars and lost to the 96 badgers the day before.

Nice way to spend a day with a drive over to Chip Falls for a couple games without the headache of doing a 3 day tourney. AAA Teams should do more of this, economical and fun.

The '96 badgers beat U12 reebok 6-3 and outshot the '95 badgers 32-18 in a 2-3 loss on saturday. Sunday the '96 badgers beat the '96 ice cats 4-3 and the '97/96 blades 6-2. The '95 badgers won 5-2 against the '96/95 north stars and lost 1-2 against the '96 ice cats. It was a lot of fun and some pretty good hockey. This weekends Ind. Classic should give us a pretty good indication of where the U14 teams should rank. The '95 badgers are in pool A with Os 97s? The '96 badgers are in pool B - someone had that reversed earlier. I don't agree with the '96 prospects playing up. Are they that good?? Is U16 that much better?? ... Just curious.

Badger,

The answer to the 96 Prospect question. They are very good and should play at the U16 level. The games are faster and the players are more solid.
Also you played the Blades 97/98 team and beat them 6-2. You will be playing the Blades 95/96 team on Saturday.

U14: The 96 Prospects, Ice Cats, and Bauer all had good weekends that included some big wins. I think the u14 gold bracket may have been the best U14 tourney bracket yet this year.

The Team to beat in MN looks to be the 96 prospects, with the Ice Cats, Bauer, LS Stars, and Blades right behind. Would be nice to see a little scrimmage fest in the fall with those 5 teams, or to see them all in the same pool of a fall tourney. There are some very talented U14 and HS players on all those rosters. The 96 birth year looks to be a very deep talent pool across the state.

Agreed - Bauer would definitely be up for it!

Royals dad,

U14 teams in Minnesota. Agreed 96 Prospect team is the team to beat.

I believe you are missing the 95 Minnesota Score out of Stillwater as the next best team losing to the 96 Prospect team 3-2 in earlier tourney in the finals. They also beat Icecats by a few and Bauer by 8 a week ago. Also, the Blades beat the LS Stars twice this weekend 7-5 and 4-1. The B pool crushed the A pool in crossover games, so I am not impressed with Bauer as of yet

So my ranking of the Minnesota teams so far

1- 96 Prospect
2- 95 Minnesota Score
3- 96 Icecats
4- 95-96 Blades
5- 95-96 LS Stars

They beat Bauer when they were missing approximately 8 of their regular players. Not a fair assessment.

The tougher pool this weekend was the Gold.

Sorry I did forget the Score, they were solid at the meltdown, they have not played the 96 Ice cats though. They played the 97s at the meltdown. The 96 Ice Cats played the 96 Score team and it was a 6 to 0 final. The Score did well enough in the Meltdown to be right up at the top. Watching Bauer a bit this weekend I would think they are right up there as well. That is probably a solid top 6 any others? Should make a good tourney if they were to all get together, afraid some may be at U16 and some at U14 in upcoming tourneys so it probably wont happen.

Royals dad- My bad, I didn't realize that the 95 Score only played the younger Icecats.

CenRed- I will give you the Bauer in the grouping as they did lose to the champion of the tourney only 2-1. Must of been a good game. The Gold division had an A and B bracket. Bauer was in the A group. When they played in the crossover games the scores were 9-0, 12-1, 9-3 and 2-1. The B bracket won all the games.

LS Stars- Had their best player show up at the start of the second against the Blades iin the 3rd game. The score was 3-0 at the time and ended 7-5. It was an exciting game. She played the next two games winning 9-0 against the OS Selects and lost to the Blades again 4-1. The Stars are very good and are capable of winning any game they play.

LS Stars have openings in their tourney if anyone is interested.
Dates are August 6-7-8 in Duluth.
Stars are also playing in the Pepsi Cup and the USA International cup.

What other teams will be in Duluth, it was a good field last year.

Are the LS Stars in U14 or U16 for Pepsi and USA International? I think the Ice Cats are U16 for both of those.

Would be interesting to hear from some OS Prospects about how the U16 Independent Cup went it looked like they had about the same scores/results as they did at the U14 Meltdown. I'm thinking the upper level U14s might be on par with some of the U16 brackets out there as some of the top U16s are playing up as well.

You could say that the 96 Badgers, Icecats, Prospects, Blades, Score, and LS Stars are the strongest teams around in U14 OR U16. Why then would one or two of them want to evade the others and play in U16? I can think of a reason or two, but I don't want to offend.....

LS Stars are in the 14U for both, but might go to 16U for the I-Cup. The Pepsi Cup goes from 14U to HS. Does this mean any age up to seniors? or just 93/94 and younger?

Not sure who is in the Stars tourney, but I will find out and post.

I think what you're seeing is that the strongest 14U AAA teams have players that either are varsity players already or certainly could be varsity players at most schools. So, should they play at 14? 16? Or, because some teams are loaded, varsity? With girls there's an interesting dynamic in that the top AAA teams are solid top to bottom. There are very few varsity teams with the same overall strength. The top 14U AAA teams you mention may be stronger than most varsity teams in the state because of that. Boys teams are more tightly packed so they have open and invite levels within single birth years. It's difficult for the boys to compete outside their birth year. Girls teams seem to be trying to find the right level to play.

Breezy Point 6/18-19-20 weekend.

I know of two Minnesota Score teams, 95 and a 96 team.
