South St. Paul - Next year

is anyone thinking about South St. Paul for next year? They had a .500 season this year, but they lose only three seniors and none of their top four scorers.
I think these guys might make some noise.
(I have no connection to the SSP program)

With Wilcox returning they should replace Mahtomedi as the team that dukes it out with STA for 4A and 2nd place in the conference behind Hill. They will probably still be underdogs though unless they get some depth which they haven't had in years.

Why does it seem that you guys in SSP have been complaining about coaching over the span of the the current coach and the coach just before him? What about the shrinking numbers in SSP youth which will also result in shrinking talent?
It seems that the landscape has really changed in SSP over the years and maybe it is just not going to be a hockey power anymore?

For now it's over.
Crank up mite recruiting. 60 new mites this year. 30 boys and 30 girls. Tell me how it goes.

Wilcox{USHL}, Young{USHL} and Pilot{NAHL} are gone...it's not looking good for the upcoming season.

wilcox, young, & pilot gone ?? now hire brad zangs as the head coach - that would be the "final nail in the coffin."
maybe dad can arrange to have jared ref most of the home games next year.
p.s. russell stover is looking mighty fine

It seems to be a trend in SSP to bail the team, 3 kids are leaving and one kid is going to Hill for 9th grade. What is going on with this program? I was under the impression that SSP was full of tradition.

South St. Paul went to State nearly every year in the Fifties and Sixties.
With no championships and only a couple of final appearances, the Packers were firmly established as also-rans by the mid-Seventies.
I think South St. Paul and Hill were the only small schools to move up to class AA initially in the early-Nineties, but the Packers lost that respect since moving back down to class A (a couple other small schools have moved up since).
Packer tradition is just that:
history.

As someone who personally knows the people you refer to here, I have to say that's incredibly below the belt and very untrue.

Agreed but that could change if SSP makes some changes...losing top players doesn't help the situation but why are they leaving? The SSP bantams (River Heights) are combined with Inver Grove Heights, why not do the same with the high schools? Just a thought...

Your saying SSP has no goalies to take Wilcox's place or that they need a goalie to transfer into to SSP? They must have a couple of goalies that can at least stop the puck once in awhile...I think scoring is going to be just as big of an issue with the loss of players leaving the program...maybe they need to bring back coach Woog!

Glad to see SSP is finally losing players too, after raping Simley's program for years of their best players...down with the packers !!!

Were there any tranfers from Simley to South St. Paul this year from the River Heights Bantam team?

In saying this, you're essentially cheering on the (likely) permanent disappearance of good South St. Paul teams, and one fewer successful first ring program.

I am just saying that SSP has had the benefit of Simley's better players transferring to them over the past 10 years and I am glad that now they can see the other side of it by losing some of their better players. I was born, raised and graduated from IGH and Simley High School and it would not hurt my feelings one bit to see SSP and their haughty attitude spend some time at the bottom of the standings.

SSP wont combine High School teams with Simley because they think they are better than IGH...they would rather just take Simley's better players and pretend they are from SSP than actually combine programs and have to admit they needed IGH to stay competitive.
