Opted not to register this year. Cost vs Value Ratio is lopsided.flatontheice wrote:That time of year again. Please post your model camp rosters here if you have them.
Like it seems with all good things, the temptation to 'water' down is done more often then not by the people who come up with great ideas and then give in to adding more players. Two big factors contribute to that.CrashDaNET wrote:Opted not to register this year. Cost vs Value Ratio is lopsided.flatontheice wrote:That time of year again. The Value vs Cost was not there. Definitely showed last year....
It was much better two years ago with stronger players. It has become watered down
Just my two cents.
When were these "old days" that you seem fond of?seek & destroy wrote:Model Camp should go back to the old days
Your "Mr. Gopher" so you should know but my understanding is that back when the Model Camps were first started (perhaps under a different name) they did not include quite so many players in the camp.Gopher Blog wrote:When were these "old days" that you seem fond of?seek & destroy wrote:Model Camp should go back to the old days
Well, I didn't attend the camp in the very, very early days but I have gone to the camp for well over the last 10+ years and the size has pretty much stayed status quo. It's not like they shifted from 100 kids to 200+ kids a few years ago. It has been that way for a while and the quality (for summer scrimmage hockey mind you) has generally been very good over that time.seek & destroy wrote:Your "Mr. Gopher" so you should know but my understanding is that back when the Model Camps were first started (perhaps under a different name) they did not include quite so many players in the camp.Gopher Blog wrote:When were these "old days" that you seem fond of?seek & destroy wrote:Model Camp should go back to the old days
If my information is wrong, I apologize but I still stand by my initial premise that too many of these programs have been diluted by trying to allow more and more people to attend rather than limiting it to only the top players.
Also heard Lucia makes $60,000 , and pays no rent at Mariucci now you know why he won't leave the U.rudy wrote:Someone directly involved said you send in the form and you're in.
What is a model camp, and what do I need to do if I don't want to do this?Ufeelshame wrote:Has anybody else noticed that no matter what the event, camp, league, tournament, some body thinks the talent is "watered down". I certainly haven't seen that to be the case. What I see is less and less players seperating themselves because everyone is getting better. Has anyone noticed it is getting harder to get into the NAHL, USHL, college, etc. While they may let more players into these events, camps, etc. maybe just maybe, it is because more players are qualified???? One thing I do know is that there are tryout camps coming up and not everyone is "invited". In fact they limit the number of skaters. Funny, but I have yet to hear that the NAHL or USHL coaches think the talent is watered down. Go figure.
The NAHL has for each of the past seasons gained 2+ teams each season. This season I believe they are adding in the ballpark of 6-8 new teams for next season. As it is in the NA only a small handful of players move on the D-1 from each team and even less on the bottom of the pack teams. There is no question that the talent is getting diluted and the NAHL is turning into a D-III feeder, not D-1. IMO this is a large problem because now kids who used to chose D-III because they could go right to college without juniors can no longer do this. In addition to the watered down talent many teams have 4+ tryout camps as a fundraiser. Simply stupid. Many D-III coaches will not take players straight from high school hockey anymore, but no matter I hear the Gophers will take themUfeelshame wrote:Has anybody else noticed that no matter what the event, camp, league, tournament, some body thinks the talent is "watered down". Thats when it became a recruiting NCAA issue. The U can't turn kids away.seek & destroy wrote:Your "Mr. Gopher" so you should know but my understanding is that back when the Model Camps were first started (perhaps under a different name) they did not include quite so many players in the camp.Gopher Blog wrote:When were these "old days" that you seem fond of?seek & destroy wrote:Model Camp should go back to the old days
