Let's talk about transfers. Some are allowed. One rule states after 9th grade an athlete sits out a varsity season, and is only eligible for JV, if they change schools. Others say there's allowances for public to private transfers. Private to public because of financial hardship is another.

Here's a story in today's StarTribune. Will this athlete sit a year of varsity play?

Riley Dearring, arguably the state's top basketball prospect in the 2013 class, will leave Hopkins and transfer to DeLaSalle, according to his father, Darren. Darren Dearring said a variety of factors led to the decision, including concerns about his son's development on and off the court. He said "playing time" was not the only reason for the move. Riley Dearring was a reserve on a Hopkins varsity team that won the Class 4A title in March. The 6-4 freshman guard is already on the national radar and is expected to be one of Minnesota's top sophomores next season. "The best situation for him is not at Hopkins," Darren Dearring said Tuesday.

Those rules only apply to homeowners. Apartment dwellers can do what they want.

From what I understand, if he lives in the Hopkins district, all he has to do is move out of the Hopkins district and he would be eligible right away at DeLaSalle.

Same goes for any other transfer. If there is a change of residence, there is no eligibility issue.

Actually for a private school transfer, you just need to move residences. It can be next door if you want...

This is more of the helicopter parents running the show. Too bad he doesn't get to be a kid. Oh at D he will need to attend classes and participate and turn in assignments, remember Royce White!!!
