A friend of mine w/ Channel 5 says they interviewed McBain today at MN Made about the D6 controversy. I believe it might air in a little bit?

Interesting!!!! I agree with Bernie and most of the parents. Why doesn't D6 spend more time trying to improve their product????

Oh, because they are nothing more than bureaucrats protecting their turf. Why try to improve the system, just eliminate any other competition and you'll be fine.

Who are they to tell me that I can have my kid only play on the nights that these bureaucrats decide are acceptable????? Personally, I'll push the envelope and do both, always choosing assoc. over outside assoc. if there is a conflict. We'll see what these morons do about it!!!

Local hockey boards, D6 and MNHOC are the problem, not the solution!!!!

From the outside looking in this is kind of odd. When I think of quality hockey programs I think of District 6. There teams are among the best at all levels year after year. D2, D8 and D10 have strong teams but I don't see the consistency at all levels and also it will vary from year to year.

What is "wrong" with the local D6 associations in the eyes of the families that participate in MM?

I'm not taking sides but I am curious. Is it just that they don't want to be told what they can or can't do, or do they genuinely think their local program is a problem?

Mac, it doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong. As I understand it, for many it is just a question of more, more, more. Lots of kids like hockey at this age. Two or three days a week with your association or two or three days a week with Choice.

How about five days a week!

I know so many kids down here that would be double-dipping. Even if nothing is bad in an association a family could still sign up for Choice. I will spend more time in the car driving to practices this season than any of these families will in doing both. If you lived nearby it is very appealing.

This is absolutely ridiculous! Don't even have a kid in D6 but who are they to tell me or any other parent how to let their child play hockey. Next they will start policing the number of hours your kid skates on outdoor ice or play boot hockey. Does parental guidance count? Where do you draw the line? Someone from D6 please inform the rest of us what it is you are trying to accomplish! If this can be enforced legally, what does that say about our freedoms in this district and what is to come down the pike. I mean at what point did we sign over our childrens hockey rights to D6 or Minnesota hockey.

For everybody's information the State High school league has a rule that does not allow a player to even be listed on a different roster for the same sport during the sports season subject to penalties. This rule has been around with the high school for at least 20 years.

D6 is trying to following the model of our current Gov.

Ram it through, ram it down the throats of the people......what a bunch of BS.

What I found interesting is the fact that this new "rule" wasn't even voted on.....how is that possible? Does a District President have the authority to enact new rules like this without a motion being brought foward for a vote?

District Boards are only advisory in nature. The final responsibility belongs to the District Director. The board has no authority.

So I guess the answer to my question is "yes"...the District Director can enact any rules he likes.

Are District meetings run using Robert's Rules of Order?

**This rule does not impact any hockey clinics our outside activities including but not limited to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Religious events, birthday parties, etc. This rule strictly applies to league play.

Come on, let's stick to hockey not politics. Very polarizing world.

Okay, just realize that if District 6 can say you aren't allowed to play in the Mite Choice league at Minnesota Made they also have the power to tell kids they can't sign up for those things too. They may not wield that power now, and probably don't intend to in the future, but the fact they want that power is the part that is troubling.

I agree, I mean the fact that those things were listed is actuallly rather telling. It shouldn't even need to be in the rules that my son/daughter can go to chuch or whatever.

I still can't get over the fact that one person has the authority to create this rule without a vote.

At the association level, you can't do anything without a motion, discussion and a vote. And the President doesn't even have the authority to raise a motion or vote (unless there is a tie). I didn't realize that the Districts operated a different way....

Does anyone know if there was even a discussion at a District meeting before the President created this rule? If so, was there a consensus among the associations that this was a good idea?

This rule is entirely aimed at MM Choice. D6 is not worried about the other training programs (blades mites, karn, etc) because they do not offer teams and games. Parents and kids want to play games. MM is the only non mh program offering this.

It is not about attendance. How many issues have arisen about shortages of players because kids were at their MM teams? I have yet to hear a parent complain about too much ice time for their kid. It is about control. If you want to play hockey games, you have to play for D6.

While other training programs aren't a threat to MH's monopoly, I agree that successfully defending this ban will open the door for D6/MH to further tighten their grip. The next move could be to require all training to be done by MH approved programs. They could require the Karns, etc to register with them and pay a cut.

Outside activities aren't as protected as one would like. There can be quite a backlash against choosing to attend church, scouts, etc over hockey. In Tonka, a 2 year squirt A player was relegated to the pw C team because he attended a family wedding instead of a tryout date. It is dangerous for MH/associations to demand that hockey be the most important priority in life.

Interestingly I have actually developed a opportunity in Wisconsin where "high level" associaiton kids can come and get extra skill work and 3on3 games against eachother during the winter. The program is meant to compliment their association season and not compete with it. The inspriation and idea actually came from the MN Made Choice program and the reaosn we are doing it is to keep kids in associtiation hockey and give them a viable choice to year round Tier 1 AAA hockey. I actually like year round Tier 1 AA hockey and I like we have that option in Wisconsin, what I didn't like was the fact that good players felt they had no other options other than that to get better in the Winter. A program like this gives them that option to get better but also stay within their associations and communities. It's funny how the same basic premise and idea in two different areas can lead to two different perceptions of the idea.
