16 yr old Landon Hochstetler was hit by a car while rollerblading 1 week ago and is in a coma in intensive care. He could really use our hockey community's thoughts and prayers right now. If this link works here is his caring bridge site-

News is not good, neurosurgeon has indicated Landon's brain has sustained severe damage and is vegetative. (not sure if that is how you say it but you know what I mean) Let's hope Dr. is wrong. Please keep thinking of this young man and hockey player. Landon and his family are fortunate to have prayers coming in from him around the country.

There is always hope. My prayers are with this young man.
Reminds me how trivial most of my problems are.

The doctors thought I wasnt going to make it for a while back in 2009, and I turned things around and am doing well. So there is always hope. Hopefully the doctors are wrong, which they are sometimes.

Little update- Although the Doctors have not changed their prognosis, Landon is showing little signs of improvement. Brain swelling has gone down, vital signs have become more stable. Family and friends (and many new friends) are continuing to hope and pray for recovery.

Landon has been on the move (well, kind of anyway). He has been moved to Bethseda for therapy and to try to stimulate his brain. His body is healing very well, but he remains in a coma. Many stories have been shared with the family of TBI patients who had basically no hope initially, but who have been healed. Keep sending those positive thoughts and prayers to him and his family. The hockey community is a great one.
(see link on first entry to visit his caring bridge site).

Landon is now off the respirator, great news! He is clinically out of the coma state, and now in a state referred to as minimal awareness. Although neurologist has not changed the opinion that brain damage is severe, Landon is making little bits of progress that keeps his family and all of us "fans" hopeful that better things are to come. As we gear up for another hockey season, please keep thinking of Landon as he battles to recover.
get well

Landon currently remains at Bethseda, where he is now breathing on his own. According to his Caring Bridge site, he now opens both eyes and is able to follow some movement. When he arrived about a month ago at Bethseda, he had a neuro sensory test on which he scored a 3 out of 113. His last test he has improved to 33. When he reachs a 60 he will qualifiy for more intensive rehab. Again, the neurologists remind the family that his brain injury is severe. Everyone continues to be positive and keep working with Landon. If you have an extra couple minutes, check out his caring bridge site journal updates. (See 1st entry above for link). You will be moved to both laughter and tears by his inspirational family. Please continue to keep Landon in your thoughts and prayers.
