Should be interesting to see 7AA, and some of the 7A teams get into action against each other coming up this Tueday for annual IRC Conference Jamboree in Virginia.

Also, Virginia is scrimmaging I Falls in the back arena in Virginia at 4:30.

Hibbing beats Falls 3-0 in dominating fashion

Rapids killed Virginia 5-1

Rapids looked very strong, Virginia didn't have anything for them, it may have been just a scrimmage but I was surprised how well Rapids played.

I guess only time will tell. For the fast few years these scores havent told too much though.

how did hibbing look and virginia? puckranger you usually give good in depth detail

Don't be surprised by the Virginia Grand rapids score.....Lakeville South pounded Virginia as well

As previously mentioned, these things typically don't go far to predict what will happen in the season, as rosters will change as will goalies and line combinations, not to mention most teams haven't practiced all that much yet... but nonetheless it still creates some interesting talking points. Here is a short version at what I took away from the jamboree tonight.

Eveleth 4, Greenway 0
Eveleth had 19 seniors listed on their roster, Greenway had 2. Play definitely showed that as Eveleth easily controlled almost the entire scrimmage, even when shorthanded. Their 4th goal was in fact shorthanded. Eveleth's Dalton Johnson stood out a little bit more than anyone else in this game. Not a huge surprise with this outcome, but Eveleth was a little more impressive than I expected... and Greenway perhaps a little farther away than I had figured.

Hibbing 3, I Falls 0
Hibbing controlled a good portion of this one, although I Falls had a few good chances and didn't capitalize. Kind of a sloppy affair though - neither team was great at making a pass. As expected, Nick Decenzo and Adam Johnson looked like the best two players on the ice. I Falls has some work to do if they are going to be competitive in either the conference or section 7A.

Grand Rapids 5, Virginia 1
Grand Rapids was far and away the best team at the jamboree. Crisp passing, sharp shooting, and very aggressive on the forecheck. They seemed to be the strongest and fastest team I saw today. Travis Underwood was one of the better players on the ice for Grand Rapids, although they all played pretty well. Virginia had their moments, and had a chance to tie it at 2-2 early in the 2nd half. But a penalty and a powerplay goal a few minutes later and Rapids took over completely for the final six minutes. Wes Judnick was a force for Virginia throughout. Grand Rapids played with just 12 skaters (see below).

I wouldn't read too much into this though. If I recall, the results were similar last couple years and the top 4 teams in the conference all were competitive with each other all year long.

MORE IMPORTANTLY
I would like to make light of a nice show of sportsmanship (that's not the word I'm looking for, but nothing else is coming to mind) that took place before the Virginia/Grand Rapids game. Jacqueline Bischoff was very active in the Grand Rapids hockey program and a big part of the Grand Rapids hockey community. Her son Jake is part of the Thunderhawks varsity. Unfortunately, she passed away on Friday. A moment of silence was observed in her honor with her picture on the new video screen at the arena before the game. After the moment of silence, all of the Virginia players each went down the line and shook the hands of each and every Grand Rapids player that made the trip for the game (understandably, many did not as her funeral was today). It was a touching moment.

Puckranger, that was a very class move by the Virginia team to do and the community of Virginia. Thanks for sharing the news with us.

I met her three or four times.
Her sister and brother-in-law are very good friends of mine.
She was a very nice person.
She was the daughter of Greenway of Coleraine hockey star and ref, Bob Tok.

Its great to see the small community's come together for such an unfortuate event.
