Edina won 4 tourney's over Thanksgiving weekend. Two of them over Andover, one over Mpls Storm, and a fourth over some other random school that can't beat Edina either.

so, including boys & girls from all youth levels, they probably have over 1000 kids playing hockey. Seems like an awful lot. are they all edina kids? or do they have a bunch of kids waivering in?

Should have two A teams.

Should add another B team rather than have 2 A teams. They will never split into 2 equal A teams so it won't work. Reducing a by one C team and adding one more B team would even it out a little. However, it is really hard to judge how good you area in any given year. Unfortunately for everyone else Edina will dominate this year.

The fact is, very few associations are even close in size and certainly not in the talent they have this year. This group is very deep, somewhat like they were a few years ago. Last year they were not even close to this year and their A teams and B teams were not overly succussful. This year will be different.

The only associations close in size if I am not mistaken are Wayzata (as big or bigger), OMG 9 teams (only 1 C team) Minnetonka (8 teams) Stillwater (10 teams if you inlcude St. Mary's Point...however this is a little overblown because they let mites move up and play C squirts...really more like 7 teams and only 3 B teams) WBL 8 teams...4 B teams. Not sure who else has this many kids. EP has 6 teams. Centennial 6 teams, ER 5 teams. Some districts don't do B1 and B2 in Squirts so that drives less B and more C teams. Just part of the differneces in the districts.

What I find a little dissapointing is seeing how many A teams are taking less than 15 skaters. Even Minnetonka with 8 squirt teams only has 14 skaters to try to compete. Is this really what it is all about? Is that 15th kid really not good enough to play at that level? Jefferson only has 12 A skaters to try to compete with their 4 teams. It seems like many associations even those with 6 or more teams are going with 13 skaters and one goalie. I kind of understand it if you are STMA and only have 4 teams and can be successful with 13 and 1 but associations with 8 teams not filling a full team seems wrong. Am I missing something?

The Edina B Squirt teams are around 65-5 for a record with 2-3 of those losses from playing each other.

It was the same three years ago.

That led to the A1 and A2 idea the following season.

Maybe instead of A1 and A2 they should try 2 A1.5 (though most other associations would say they are both A1). It seems to work with the B1 teams which are both typically in the top 5.

Think Edina had two Squirt A teams two years ago - A1 and A2. And heard A1 won most of its games, and A2 lost most of its games. Hope some Edina or non-Edina folks could confirm or dispute this. It may be a stretch to say that its B teams can beat the A teams from many other associations.

You have it correct, two years ago Edina had one top team that dominated and a lower A squirt team that couldn't beat themselves. It was a great ego check for that particular set of parents

Not. They would beat all but the top 10-15, easy.

Tricky discussion and it's unlikely that Edina leaders are reading the forum for other opinions. I understand why they have just 1 A at PeeWee and Bantam, where there are regional and state tourney's to win, and that could be related why they don't want 2 equal A Squirt teams. Where would they go from there? Back to B1 for PeeWee causes unbelievable drama with that group.

"Easy." do you have number to back that up?

Then the A1 team finished 1st and its A2 brother finished almost last in D6. Are you saying all the D6 A team are top 10-15 in the state? Folks from other districts surely would not agree with you.
