EP vs. AHA on 1-20-11

It's the third game of a brutal week long stretch for the Stars (#7 Tonka, #4 Hill, and #3 EP). Here's my scouting report:

Forwards - Tie
Defense - Advantage EP
Goaltending - Slight advantage EP
Power Play - Advantage EP
Penalty Kill - Tie
Home Ice - EP
Intangible - AHA (This gm has more meaning for AHA than EP. See below)

IMO, AHA needs to get an early goal or two on the board versus Ford to rattle him and see if his recent struggles continue (14 shots and 10 saves vs. DE). If they can do that, they have a chance.

I also expect AHA to play a conservative forecheck to start the game to slow down EP's speed and to get their own defense into the flow.

My prediction:

EP - 5 (en)
AHA - 3

P.S. IMO AHA does need a one more "signature" win against a MN high school team to hold onto the #2 seed in Section 2AA. Even though they beat Burnsville, I'm not sure only that win alone will get them the 2 seed. If not EP, they only have one more chance against BSM.

Stars need to play a solid game. Like they played against Edina, not like at home against Hill Murray. Because I never vote against my team, I will pick them to win. But, they will need to be 100% so AHA by 1......

Interesting that this is only the second home game for EP. Their other home game was opening night against AV.

I like EP by 3.

If AHA can get PP on track they can compete in this game. Face-offs
and D play are critical too. EP may produce too much pressure
for AHA D and Goalie to withstand. AHA giving up 5 goals to top teams
and not able to match at even strength makes it tough. I say EP 6-4 with
empty netter.

Wow, they'll be ready for a home game... AHA will have to score early and often.

AHA 5 EP 3. What a great win on the road. Yes EP played without Ford in net or 17 on D, but for a team that needed a big win here it is. Played a great game.

I wouldn't even give them that as an excuse, sounds like AHA played a good game.

This should just about lock up the #2 seed in the section for Holy Angels. With a Benilde team Edina has already beaten and Shattuck left as their only non-Missota opponents, if Holy Angels runs the table, can Edina falter enough to give Holy Angels the top seed or is Edina a lock for the top seed?

True wblhockeyfan8. Just posting the facts from the game. Stars played a great game. Keep it rolling boys got some games coming up that should be wins and then a tuff one with BSM.

Looks like EP has finally fallen from their number 1 spot. With Duluth falling to AV, does this put Edina and Hill in the top two now?

I think with Edina losing to Wayzata tonight, Hill should get the Nod!

Based on their win over Holy Angels and what has happened around them, I would say Hill gets the nod now as well. I still think they need to prove themselves though. It's a tough week again - good luck Karl!

A nice win for AHA.

I had the right score 5-3 (including the empty net call), just the wrong order of the teams.
