Roseville (11-7-5) (9-6-2, SEC 3rd place) at White Bear Lake (16-5-2) (14-1-2, SEC, 1st place) 7:30 PM
White Bear has clinched a share of the SEC Title and more than likely the 2nd seed in Section 4AA. They are coming off a shutout of Park on Tuesday but recently the defense and goaltending has taken a step back and needs to improve prior to sections. Roseville is coming off their worst game of the season, getting drubbed by Cretin 9-1, prior to the drubbing they had only lost one game by more than two goals, and that took an empty netter. Tough game for the Raiders to try and bounce back as the Bears will be playing for the outright SEC Championship. A Roseville win should lock them into the 4 spot in Section 4AA, a loss could drop them to 5, either way I see a Roseville/North St. Paul first round matchup.

The Royals have won only two of their last eight and have given up 13 goals in the last two contests. They have been outshot game in and game out all year relying heavily on their goaltending duo which has held up until recently. Woodbury’s last chance to gain some momentum befor next week’s win or go home games. Mounds View snapped a six game winless streak with a win over Park on Saturday and look to jump into a 7th place tie with Woodbury with a victory and gain some much needed confidence for Saturday’s game against section 4 foe North St. Paul.

The Raiders are the hottest team in the conference at the moment, sporting a 5-1-2 record over the last few weeks. They absolutely manhandled a very good defensive team in Roseville on Saturday, scoring a season high nine goals. They are going to be a tough matchup for some teams in Section 3AA if they play like they are playing at the moment. After a rough few weeks the Rangers have bounced back decently with a tough one goal loss to White Bear on Saturday, and nice win against an underrated Cloquet team on Tuesday. A win against a hot team could do wonders for their confidence going into Section 7AA play.

Both teams are coming off disappointing Tuesday evening losses. Stillwater was shutout by North St. Paul 4-0 while Hastings was shelled by Duluth East 12-2, giving up nine second period goals. The Ponies are struggling big time at the moment, both offensively, and surprisingly in the defensive end as well. They were playing well up until last week, but this recent swoon probably has sealed their fate as the three seed in Section 4AA. With some help from Roseville, and win tonight they can earn a piece of the SEC crown. The Raiders had been playing extremely well going into the week as they climbed up though the SEC into tie with Roseville for 3rd place, but a 10 goal loss brings them back to earth.

Last chance for the Wolfpack to win an SEC game, they have stopped scoring goals and are giving up to many to win, currently on a seven game losing streak. East Ridge meanwhile is playing their best hockey of the season only giving up five goals in their last four games and coming off back to back five goal games offensively. The Raptors could prove to be a tough quarterfinal matchup for someone.

It's also no shock that WBL appears to have the second worst penalty kill. Sager's system for a PK is so horrible, it does nothing but put 100% pressure on the goalie... They play a tight box, and allow point men to take shots from about 15 feet out, forcing big rebounds, and allowing rebound goals.

If any team can execute to pressure the puck with great forechecking, and force WBL to take the bad penalties such as holding, hooking and tripping, that team should be able to take advantage of the poor penalty kill.

WB's 1 man short penalty kill is probably not as bad as the percentage shows, the problem is that they have way to many 2 man short situations.

Bears win SEC outright, WBL outshot the Raiders by a wide margin and controlled play for most of the game, however Roseville scored a goal in OT that wasn't seen except for those behind, if there were a goal judge the light would've went on. Congrats still have to go out to the Bears though!

Ponies win 2-1.

4.5 seconds to go, faceoff in the Hastings zone...Ponies win it...Mogren rips one from the high slot...upstairs, glove side with 0.9 seconds to go in regulation. Credit those Ponies...they are a tough squad, but also very proud of the Blue and Gold tonight. They could have rolled over after the loss at East...but didn't.

Hats off to both teams, on one whale of a hockey game!

I wasn't at the WBL game tonight. But 45 saves or so, and only one goal allowed coming in OT! How well did the Roseville goalie play? Or was he really not tested with alot of great scoring chances?

Sounds like Roseville has been outshot practically every game, but they never seem to give up alot of goals. (Minus that game against CDH a couple games ago).

It's going to take an amazing goaltending performance for anyone in 4AA to upset Hill, and something like tonight might be what it takes. I just don't think Roseville has enough offense for that to happen. The only team I think that has a shot is WBL, just because of Mac, Birki, and Wahlin. But they were all shutdown in the December meeting earlier this season. Those 3 seniors are going to have to be great if they were to meet in the section finals! Oh, I can't wait until sections!

And you're wrong, because try to explain to me as to why this team gives up 26.25% PP goals. That is brutal. That is inexcusably brutal.... So, you must be blaming the players and not the system. Shame on you for blaming the players. What kind of proudfan blames the players??

On the flip side, the power play is at a ridiculous fantastic 32%.... there is no way with the skilled players that WBL has should they be allowing the PK to be that weak.. This is a team that should be at an 82-85% PK.

Doubt you'll find such a stat; you may have to do some digging yourself.

MPGC #1, I also enjoy watching Section 5AA! I would love to see Maple Grove and WBL winning their respective sections on Finals Friday! Blaine and Hill Murray have won their section every year since 06' , it's time for a change!

WBL - It's time for a change indeed. Both teams (HM and Blaine) are having great runs; however, it would be nice to see some new teams on the ice. Heck, speaking of a change, maybe WB will win their first quarterfinal game!?

I know it may be early but, any early all-conference (1st team, 2nd team) picks? Oh and also SEC MVP, defense, and goaltender of the year?

I already put my pick in for WBL's Mac Jansen for SEC Player of the Year. Very clutch goals down the stretch for the conference champs.
