#9 St. Cloud Apollo just beat #1 Little Falls 3-1!! Can anybody think of a bigger upset in recent memory in the playoffs?

In all my looking over records, I have never seen an example of a top 2 seed not make the semi's. I also do not recall off hand a 9 seed or lower make the semi's. Congrats.
Should be an exciting 6A tournament.

It's just too bad for Little Falls. I really thought they were going to make it to the X again...

As Lee had said, probably not in the modern tournement, but in the one class 1 or 2 seeds lost before the semi's. Of course they were bigger sections. Now a #9 beating #1??? It may be the biggest.

Seed wise this doesn't compare, but HM lost to NSP in OT in the quarter finals in section 3AA in 2005. (HM was not the #1 seed, WBL was)
Not sure on the numbers but I think HM had a 30+ year run of making it to the section semi-finals.
That was a big upset.

I feel like Johnson over Tartan two years ago was a decent upset, yes?

That was a big upset.

HM was a #4 seed and NSP was a #5 seed.

I sure feel bad for the seniors on Little Falls. They go in thinking they are going to get a nice win, their career end just like that...

Well, maybe that was the problem.

Sure glad this game wasn't included in the "FORUM PLAYOFFS" contest. It would have been a short one!

No kidding. But who called this? No one.
Probably only Apollo fans and players.

Just explains this year. Upsets and unranked teams coming up big when it counts. I am excited to see if there are any big upsets in the Class AA sections...

There's going to be one. I doubt a #8 over a #1 though, but there will be some down the stretch.

LF played very poor tonight. They couldn't get anything started, and Apollo took full advantage of it tonight. Congratulations to the Apollo. Good luck to them through the rest of the section playoffs

What about Jefferson way back in what was 1984? I believe that they were ranked #2 in state and #1 in the sections before being sent home in the quarter-finals.

thats why they call it a upset, wouldn't be worth much to call it the other way
