Wayzata vs EP had to be one of the best hockey games i have ever seen, that's all my school (wayzata) talked about today even though we lost. It was an amazing atmosphere and so nerve-racking. Good luck to EP at state. Any other games this season that could possibly top last night?

Wayzata EP was the best game of the year. Such high level play and such a great atmosphere. Unbelievable finish.

Its definitely up there for game of the year. Pick any game where there was a great upset or many overtimes and you have the making for GOTY.

Up there, but not the top game. Eden Prairie-Wayzata gets my vote.

Wayzata EP was the best game I've seen played in mariucci in quite a while. Just a well played game at both ends of the ice. Not many mistakes were made and the players had amazing composure.
Also Orono vs Breck tonight was an instant classic. Very different style of play in single A but very fun to watch!

Glad you posted this; I was going to do something similar. The people sitting around me were all going nuts, as I was as we watched the drama unfold. So many near-misses, on great individual and team efforts, despite both teams trying so hard to not make costly turnovers. Inevitably, with such all-out effort being expended, there were going to be turnovers, and as the game wore on it was just a question of which team was going to capitalize. Even though I was completely impartial, I would never have bet my own money as to which team was going to finally break through. It was that close.
I've been to a lot of hockey games over the years, at all levels, both boys and girls, men and women, and this one ranked right up there in terms of being one of the most exciting games I've ever seen. Just a real shame that one of these two teams - the one that in this game had more shots and seemed to gain the better opportunities as the game wore on - will not be in this year's State Tournament. Really, it would be a better tournament if they were both in there, even though I completely understand and support the current sectional/geographic format.
For having outlasted a great Wayzata team, and being that they will represent the top section in the State, I will be hoping Eden Prairie will at least make it to the final championship game in the tournament this year, maybe against Hill-Murray?

Hockey hub now has this whole game available on video on the game recap page. If you have a few hours it may be worth your while to take this one in.

A Wisconsin Team? I think GOTY should go to 2 Minnesota teams.

It has to come from teams in the SW metro--all great teams--all games must be great. just ask them--they'll be able to spit out 6 or 7 GOTY for ya!

Couldn't agree more. This was well played, back and forth action from start to finish. Best of all by two highly skilled teams, playing hard, clean games. Wow - what action, what tension. If you were there, you had to love it.

I didn't get the opportunity to see the EP/Wayzata game, but the WBL/Hill game tonight might have topped this one. The biggest rivalry in highschool hockey plays another classic, and this arguably is the best one ever between them. The 3rd period drama alone was insane! Hill coming back from a 4-1 deficit with 11 minutes to go to send it to OT, then for WBL to hang on to perservere in double OT was simply an amazing game. Also to go along with a soldout crowd, made it all that much better.

Saw both games and they were awesome.
WB/HM gets my vote.

Was a great game, very happy to see the Bears take out Hillmurray.

I was at both the Wayzata/EP game Wednesday and the Hill/WBL game tonight and I'd have to say the Hill/WBL game was just a little bit better than the Wayzata/EP game. The atmosphere at the Coliseum tonight was insane, the rivalry, both student sections going back and forth, the game itself, tonight was a memorable one.

WOW, what an exciting build up to the Tourney anyways. Hope the teams saved enough to make the Tourney half as exciting. Look at how many 1 goal games, OT games and come from behind dramas were in the finals.
