Question about Moorhead crowd at XCel Thursday night

As a northerner and Section 8 guy, I've watched Moorhead down at state many (*sigh* too many)

times. I can't recall ever seeing a smaller crowd for them. Small student section, no band, no cheerleaders. Moorhead is not a small town, not a small school. In previous years the Spuds have had a much larger contingent and vocal support. Any info from Moorhead folks as to why no band, and such a smaller crowd this year? Economy? Sandbagging? Something else?

Nobody liked this team. Always in trouble. No respect for the program.
A proud spud alum.

Moorhead Cheerleaders? Whats that?
Moorhead has not had Hockey Cheerleaders for at least 10 to 15 years. Not enough money in budget, no interest in being a cheerleader and no cheer leading coach again no money in budget.
As for the Band, I was told they dont have enough interest. The Pep band is made up of Freshmen and Sophomores and they just dont have the numbers. If you did attend spud hockey games and were lucky or unlucky enough to hear them they were bad, and im being nice. I say lucky because of the home games the spuds play 12 this year not counting playoff games-2 they might have been at 2 or three tops.
Its tough to justify paying for travel, food and hotel for all of these high school students. Remember.....Moorhead is 230+ miles from the Excel. The same thing goes for fans and students......its not cheep to attend State competition.
The city of Moorhead citizens passed a bonding referendum this pass fall to prevent cutting teachers, educational classes and raising class sizes to 40+ in some cases. It would be hard for the School District to justify spending money on State Hockey Tournament support. They would set a president for all sports and I really dont think the citizens of Moorhead would approve of spending this kind of money.
And of course the Spuds didnt exactly show during the regular year that this might be THE team to win it all. They have had their troubles on and off the ice. The fact that they made it says something for the good kids on the team.
I would love to see Cheerleading and Band at the games but I love hockey and the spuds.
