Thought I would put this topic out there for chatter, since the festival is approaching this weekend...

There have a couple seeding games that I know of...
D2 beat D6 2-1 with 2 late gaols in the 2nd half of that scrimmage...
D8 beat D6 3-2, scoring three goals in the first half, and D6 coming back and almost scoring to tie late in 2nd half...

Good games, and some very good young ladies in both games...

In talking to some of the D8 dads, D8 beat D3 in a scrimmage by a 5-2 score...

D8 beat D3 4 to 2 (1 empty neter).

D2 beat D3 in OT 3 to 2.
So that pool looks like it was pretty well balanced but D8 and D3 got through with 2-0 records.

Funny in the first game they called penaltys but you played even strength in the second they played short handed. Does anyone know how it works at the scrimage fest?

Should be a fun weekend, I know my daughter is really looking forward to it. Have heard that D10 has a really strong group this year.

Whoops - Sorry about that.

Anyone have the brackets or know where they are posted for this weekend? On the MN Hockey website it only has times and no teams.

In looking at the rosters, and watching the D6 games, I believe that the top bracket will be very balanced. My kids played in D10 prior to moving south, and knowing the girls on that roster, D10 will be a strong team.

D6, D8, D2, D3 are close in strength, and I imagine D4/5 with the North Wright girls will have a good team as well...

Does anyone know how strong the two northern districts are?

It doesn't seem like the seeding games served much of a purpose this year with only 8 teams now vs. 12 teams in the past (no longer a top 8-team bracket and bottom 4-team pool). In the bottom part of the bracket, it looks like there will be a 2-0 team vs. a 1-0 team in the opening game (I believe D11/12 and D15/16 played only 1 seeding game - vs. each other). Does anyone know the process that was used to determine the bracket pairings based on the seeding game results?

I think the 'seeding' games were scheduled a while ago because that's the way it was always done, and nobody knew what to do about them after the districts were blended into 8 teams and the fees were posted and collected. (One manager thought there was still a bracket and a lower pool as of two weeks ago.) They could have just called them warmup scrimmages instead--I don't think they have any bearing on anything.

Anyone see any of the action? Any players stick out?

As a parent with a daughter through the process and graduating HS in 2 weeks......a little perspective -

1) Enjoy every event - if you take that approach your daughter will enjoy and play better
2) Don't sweat each outcome - if your player loves the game and works hard they will do well. Here is an example of the right focuse - as a U16 Bethany Brausen was not selected to National Camp (she was as a U15 & U17) - she was MS Hockey, and the only two time Prep Female Hockey Player of the Year by the Pioneer Press - she was signed early by MN and will be a Great Golden Gopher because she loves the game.
3) The best players today will not be the best players by the time they are seniors - injuries, jobs, school, boys, growth, strength - will all determine the outcomes - it is tough to train and stay at the top and the girls do make sacrifices.
4) Parents determine Youth Hockey - they fall off at HS, U15, U16, U17, and the Upper Midwest Fall Elite League - apply your focus on helping your daughter be her best.

There was some very good hockey played this weekend, as these Advanced events usually put out...

Watched the D6 (SW Metro district) girls, who played well in all three games and took third. Beating D4/5 on Friday, losing a great game to D10 in semis, as Schagel (Coon Rapids) scored with 2 minutes to go in an up and down game to put D10 up 2-1... Game was best I saw of weekend. D6 beat D2 (NE Metro district, with Red Wing girls in mix...) 2-0, for third last night.

D10 (NW Metro district) played very well all weekend long, and they capped it off beating D8 (SE Metro girls), 4-1, to win the championship. My guess is that D10, D6, D8 and D2 will be moving the most girls on to Mankato... Not an evaluator, just a Dad...

I will say that it was very good hockey all weekend. This age group has a bunch of talented kids. I saw that there was another thread talking about the talent level getting better each year, and having an older daughter go through this process prior, I have to agree. I see that the skill level of a larger number of girls are higher than before, and because of that greater number of good hockey players, less individuals stand out than they have in the past.

Simply put, the hockey is getting better. IMO...

I'm not sure I understand:
2) the girl went to 15s national camp and earned Ms Hockey as a senior
3) the best 15s will not be the best seniors

Not that much to understand, seems he is saying sometimes a top player doesn't go to New York, and that kids peak at different times so don't get to wrapped up in the results from the weekend. Most of all enjoy the time with your kid they are on the down slope of being a kid. Hard to believe but next year mine will want to drive herself. Thought it was simply put and well said by someone who just went through the whole process.
