I think it means most of the underclassmen who have been drafted have indicated to the junior teams they probably would leave instead of playing their senior year. It looks to me like Eagan and DE could be losing three really good players.

After the speech Randolph gave after the game to the EP players about staying in school, do you really think his kid would not play HS hockey?

I highly doubt that to be true. Both DE and Eagan will have outstanding teams that could compete for a State title. That's why I ask, what does it mean as the whole thing doesn't seem real scientific/organized to me. A whole spectrum of players from very good to not real good and a few from some schools and zero from others. As far as the Minnesota players go it seems like a weird exercise. I think there are very few instances where telling a player to skip his senior year in high school is good advice. What I’m saying is maybe a player like Marshall, who may now be able to enter the U of M as an 18 year old freshman, is an example where it may have been a good decision but he’s an outstanding player. That means most of the drafted players, that haven’t completed their Minnesota high school careers, are getting bad advice from people that are supposed to supply good advice.

I said "probably" it is undeniable there was communication and the possibility of leaving was clearly discussed.

I don't think Randolph is going to leave East.

- Agreed. It's hard to know what to make of this whole thing every year? Presumably, those drafted have some idea of what it means for them, but it has to be different for everyone. There are a few on the list who will struggle to play beyond H.S. much less play USHL hockey.

I agree that it is hard to know what to make of it when you consider there are a large number of kids who are not drafted and not tendered that make teams via the tryout process, and there are a large number who are drafted that do not make teams and end up in the NAHL or even in some cases the Tier 3 leagues.

Number 262 - Travis Wood is a freshman (Dec. '95). Great news for him. Have seen him play quite a few times through out the years - excellent player. Hill Murray D, resides in Hudson, Wisc.

I wonder if he go early? Maybe not this year, but when..

He'll be in the OHL.

Gardiner will probably bolt the U since life wasnt being served on a silver platter for him.

Why not go to were you can play 60-70 games and develop as a player, rather than hang at the most disfuctional D1 program? He isn't the first player to leave, and as long as Lucia is there, he won't be the last.

Then he should have never agreed to come last year in the first place.

He could spend 4 yrs in the USHL, it still won't help.

Most of the USHL teams will have open spots on their futures lists and are drafting these kids for next year or the year after. I would expect a lot of these underclassmen to stay put.

- No doubt, but that doesn't change how odd some of the picks look. There are some marginal players there, with a good deal of true talent left on the bench. It will be interesting to watch this group move through the ranks.

If he wasn't ready, which maybe true, why would Lucia bring him in when he was all set in Des Moines? Birkholz leaving should have never figured in because they had enough players. Now he has 16-17 forwards, 9-10 D and who knows how many goalies. Does he think more players are leaving?

He came in directly because the scholarship for Birkholz opened up.

I guess he figured that the kid could do more than some of the guys he had in those lower rungs of the lineup.
