Last season St Thomas won this match up 5-1. Marshall seemed to be a little down last year and are having a great start this year and St Thomas lost some firepower from last year. Expect this to be a great home opener for St Thomas and a good game.

In the last 5 years, the series is tied at 2-2-1 during the regular season.
Including State, the series is tied at 3-3-1 in that time period.

Isn't Marshall 2-1?

STA 4-2 in tough battle.

You are right. A certain site has them at 3-0 and I just took it off there. My bad.

It always seems that the Vanelli brothers do a lot of experimenting with lines the first few games of the year. The one thing they will not experiment with this year is goal tending. That lost them a few games early in the season last year. Zevnik should be starter here and on his game, so I would pick STA by a score of 2-0. STA will struggle putting the puck in the net.

Final score in OT

St Thomas Academy 4
Duluth Marshall 3

Marshall was up 2-0, then St Thomas has the edge in play through out the 2nd and 3rd and scored 3 straight goals to go ahead 3-2, but Marshall tied it with 14 second left to force OT.

Winning goal went in off a skate. Judd Peterson nets 2 more goals. Marshall looked tired. St Thomas looked pretty good.

St Thomas was bigger, faster and overall a little better than Marshall. Actually if you took away Judd Peterson for Marshall, STA would have been much better. He is dynamic player but needs more help against better teams like STA. STA was more aggressive to the puck and carried the play most of the game. Two goals by Judd Peterson were great individual effort on his part. The overtime winning goal was not the kind you like to see win a game. A soft shot from the faceoff circle deflected off a skate or leg and floated in the air near the goal. The goalie turned to swipe it away and knocked it in the net himself. Otherwise he put up a nice effort.
