LPH Bantam B1 rankings

For those of you who are LPH rankers for the Bantam B1 level, help me understand something. This has to do with Champlin being ranked and Rosemount not being ranked. And no, my kid doesn't play for either team, or even in either association, but he has played them both!

Champlin is ranked #12 every week, and Rosemount not ranked. The scores reported this past week (from the Super Rink Tournament).

Rosemount 4 - Champlin - 1
Rosemount 9 - North Metro 3
Rosemount 2 - Wayzata Navy 5
(Rosemount finished in 2nd place)

Champlin 1 - Rosemount 4
Champlin 3 - Moundsview 2
Champlin 5 - Irondale 2
(Champlin finished in 5th place)

I think Rosemount needs some more love in next weeks rankings!

You're probably right, but this early on in the season much of the rankings is more of an estimate of the potential of the teams.

So Rosemount should be ranked higher than Champlin Park because they beat them heads up? Or are you just saying they deserve to be ranked period? Would need more info than the one tournament.

jBlaze3k - That's tricky... One game does not a ranking make, but what is a better comparison than a head-to-head match up? In the end, that is what will matter.

I'm not saying that Rosemount should have been above Champlin, but I think Champlin climbed in the rankings (after what I would consider a mediocore Thanksgiving tournament performance) and Rosemount didn't even crack the top-20 after a good (but not great) performance, which included wins over Champlin and North Metro (who was also top 20 last week).

LPH22 - I would say that early rankings are more based on reputation, not potential, although you could argue that they are sort of the same thing.

I don't think either team has any particularly tough games coming up in the next week or two (at least according to their websites), but those are two teams that I will keep an eye on in future LPH rankings.

Champlin Park is 6-0 in district play so far having beat both Blaine teams and Elk River:

I can't speak for Rosemount and where they should be but I would say Champlin Park deserves to be ranked where they're at.

It looks like Maple Grove, Wayzata, and Edina take 7 of the top 12 spots. Edina went with even teams, Wayzata and Maple Grove did not, but all the games between the upper and lower B1 teams are 1 goal games or ties (according to the D3 and team websites).

Why would Maple Grove and Wayzata stack a team when it is not much better than the lower teams? Wayzata goes two A teams in PeeWees with a group of kids that are not that deep, then lets the Bantams still go A, B1 upper and 2 B1 lower with a deep talent pool.

Looks like they were kind of clueless when they picked the team structure this summer.

I don't blame Let's Play Hockey for the rankings.
I will say that some of the people that make the rankings,
Are a little blind. They don't see all the teams, or don't take the time to look around for scores and ask around who is playing good.
There many teams not getting the so called LOVE.
Stillwater Red finished this 3rd. And played OMG Crimson tuff.
And they are not ranked. The truth comes at the end of the season.
Who's wins and go's to State.
My ? is how does a team finish in the top 8 if they don't go to state.

Your only as good as the scores that are sent in. If the team does not send in the scores, it may not get ranked. Not sure if that is the situation, but it is a possibility.

D3 has 5 teams in the top 13, and only 3 go to regions.
D6 has 5 teams in the top 11, and only 3 advance.

Getting out of districts may be the toughest for these teams. State at the B level is not as competitive the D6 playoff.

It would be hard to rank them if you don't have any scores.
Should a program have more then 1 team in a state tourney?
Then should groups have even B1 teams or so called super teams?

They will get a great chance to prove to LPH that they should break in to the ranks. l see they are in the Edina B1 Tournament. They get Edina White, Wayzata ? & WBL ?

*From Edina site-
Rosemount does get to go to battle with Edina Wht, WBL & Way Blue.
That might give you a better handle.

I was really looking forward to a Wayzata-Blue vs. OMGHA-Crimson matchup in the Championship game of the Edina Tournament, but Crimson stubbed their toe against Woodbury Black in the semifinals (after already beating them 4-2 in pool play). Credit to Woodbury Black, but also credit to Wayzata-Blue ~ all they do is win!

So Wayzata-Blue is the undisputed #1 (in my mind), but who is #2? I don't think Edina White impressed anyone ~ in their own tournament. Woodbury-Black should move up. I supposed maybe Burnsville moves into the #2 spot? I haven't seen any results from them lately, can anyone give us their recent game results?

Is Woodbury-Black an "advanced" B1 team. I know Woodbury has 2 Bantam B1 teams, but are they balanced or stacked?

According to their site here are some recent games for Burnsville;

Burnsville 7 Eden Prairie 3
Burnsville 3 Minnetonka 2
Burnsville 6 Prior Lake 1
Burnsville 5 Woodbury Black 1
Burnsville 4 Edina Green 3
Burnsville 5 Rosemount 0

They might be deserving of that #2 spot....according to the Wayzata Blue calendar they play Burnsville on 1/14....should be an interesting game.

I would agree with Wayzata blue#1. They are playing very good hockey. Can they stay at that pace? I haven't seen Burnsville or Minnetoka play. For now #2 and #3 I would put Woodbury Black at #4. OMG Crimson
at #5. 6 thru 20 is open. No special order.
EDINA WHITE
JEFFERSON
NORTH ST.PAUL
ELK RIVER BLACK
E.P.
STILLWATER RED
STILLWATER BLACK
EDINA GREEN
OMG BLACK
WAYZATA NAVY
WAYZATA GOLD
ROSEMOUNT
LAKEVILLE NORTH
CENTENNIAL
Woodbury Black is stronger.
Anybody know who's in the Woodbury B1 Tourney. They have not post the B1's.

Woodbury's two Bantam B1 teams are balanced.

Have they played head to head. What was the score?
My son's team played both. Tied one, Beat one.
I would still say the black is stronger.

Black beat Royal 3-0 in early December.

definitely agreeing with 1. Wayzata Blue 2. OMG Crimson but 3. ? I think it's between Woodbury Black & Edina White but White isn't playing too great of hockey as of late.. although it looks like White has beaten Woodbury twice; not poundings. I think #3 should go to Edina on this one, a lot of talent on there team but nothing to display in their own tourney..

How good are Burns & Minn. Are you jumping over those 2?
What place would you have them?
I think alot of the top teams can beat or be beaten by the group.
I had Crimson fall this week because of the loss in the tourney.
Still a tuff team to beat each week.
I would agree with you about Edina White not playing good hockey.
Played Blue good, then went down hill from that point.
Does anyone know what the Northern or out state teams have?

Edina White got shafted pretty bad in their final pool game of the Edina Tournament. Refs disallowed a clear upper shelf goal that they claimed hit the post. In the end, it wouldn't have mattered because Woodbury Black would have still advanced because of the goal differential tie-break, but I still think Edina White is a top 4 team in the state.

Thanks for the posting of the Burnsville team's recent scores. I guess if I had thought about it, I could have looked them up myself :)

My kid's team played Burnsville once and I wasn't really all that impressed. They beat us, but we played them really tough. Compare that with the trouncings we've taken at the hands of the upper teams in D3 and it doesn't really make sense, but these are just young teenagers so I suppose things can run hot and cold. Based on those scores, Burnsville is definitely in the discussion for #2.
