I only saw the first two periods but BSM dominated Hill. Hill's goalie played a great game. Hill appeared to be small and could not keep up with BSM's speed. BSM's forecheck was impressive. I haven't seen Hill dominated this much since Moorhead came down and beat them 6-1 years ago. Did Hill play better in the third period?

Hill won the first and third periods, but lost big in the second.

What really killed them were the three penalties they took in the second. Benilde scored only one goal on the PP, but with the Pioneers playing shorthanded for over a third of the period, Hill was unable to generate consistent offensive pressure which is evidence by the second period shot total: 21 shots Benilde vs. 1 shot Hill-Murray.

Benilde's forecheck was very impressive. They may perhaps have the best offensive potential in the state, with a multitude of post-highschool talent on their top 2 lines.

Entertaining game nonetheless.

I was there. HM killed themselves with penalties in the 2nd period. That period was a 3-0 route by BSM. Shots in the 2nd were 21-1. The 1st & 3rd periods were much more even. I was impressed by HM's all new defensemen and goalie John Dugas for playing so well and keeping BSM scoreless for 2 periods. Heinreich is the only d-man with varsity experience. It looks like BSM, Minnetonka, Duluth East & Eagan are ahead of everyone else but things can change by March.

From my vantage point, Hill did not win the first period. I found myself facing the Hill goalie for a vast majority of the first period. Hill did have a couple of scoring opportunities, but they did not have any sustained pressure. BSM had them bottled-up for most of the period.

By "won the first period" I meant in terms of the score, not overall quality of play.

H-M Penalties definitely hurt them in the second. BSM was the bettter team. The Pioneers are going to be a work in progress this year with 15 new varsity players. All in all, nice to see they didn't quit after their bad second period and kept battling til the end.

Wasn't at the game, but the results were a lot better than I would have expected. Close game score-wise, so it was a respectable game. Hill is a team that has always gotten much better throughout the year. Especially this year, with 5 new defensemen, a new goalie, and new forwards. The first line for Hill will be very strong with Lavalle and Guentzel. I expect Dugas to have a very good season, just like I predicted earlier that he would. They're going to have growing pains, but I'd give them as good of a shot as anybody come March.

But has Benilde won a Big Boy championship yet?
