Racking up points against New Prague ?? Merry Xmas the points count

I'm sorry but does Minnesota High school hockey completely suck or what with all these young bucks getting all these points at such an early age. When I played high school hockey it was rare for even a sophmore to make a high school team, let alone lead a team in scoring. I can kind of see a trend where these good under classmen go to these small private schools and can make the team because of numbers play against inferior competition rack up a bunch of points and go read the headlines. this is great until they become the juniors and seniors and the competition still sucks, how does that help in their development. And where are the juniors and seniors to stop these young guns, and smash them into the boards making them wish they were playing JV or Bantams.

You betcha, those comments come up every year. This is high school hockey, not junior A's. Not everyone playing high school is headed for the pros. Some play because it is the team that represents their high school and their community.

Never heard anyone ever say high school hockey in minnesota sucks.. ha. It simply means there are some very skilled freshman in the state right now. However it doesn't necessarily mean they're playing the best teams in the state. Shane Gersich for instance is racking his points up from much weaker teams. It all depends on the teams you play and frankly I wouldn't be surprised to see Gersich still at the top with the teams Holy Family plays.

Exactly. And the highest-scoring player is not necessarily the best player. But this thread is about Freshmen point-scoring, not the Best Player.
Personally, I don't care if Joe X is a pro prospect and stands 6'2", weighing 230 pounds. There are threads for those types of scouting reports. High school hockey is cool because (1) it is played on ice; and (2) it is about communities. (Private schools are communities also.)

Another freshman to watch is at Woodbury HS - Hayden Shaw a freshman D starting for Woodbury - 1 G and 3 A in 5 games - top player with Senior type poise and skills.
Son of Matt Shaw who is Asst Coach with San Jose Sharks.

Please name which player on Teaks list of top freshman that has played against New Prague this year? In Your infinite wisdom You must have that answer right? Please name the team You play for and how many points You have this year? If You answer those questions You will gain some credibility on this site.

Joe! Nice to see you in the boys forum! Shaw is about 5'9 but plays like he is 6'2. Very smart with the puck.

Thanks for the updates, gentlemen. I am traveling now and won't get to updating for a few more days. Actually, in Minnie-soda now, but heading back to SE Asia soon. Unfortunately, no high school hockey on Sunday and Monday so I won't get to see any games.

Teak is back, finally, and ready to update. This is the state-of-freshmen-scoring for games through Thursday or Friday, 15-16 Dec. Some Friday games are still being played EVEN AS I TYPE. (Isn't that amazing?)
For those of you who doubt the pedigree of Shane Gersich, I just found out that his uncles are none other than Neal and Aaron Broten. Yes, his mother is a Broten, and his father played ice hockey at a high level. It looks like Shane would excel no matter where he played, but having said that, Mound-Westonka beat Holy Family Catholic 6-2 last Saturday, ending HFC's excellent early start.
Frosh Dylan Malmquist had a goal and 2 assists as Edina beat Grand Rapids 4-3 on Thursday.
Jake Wahlin of White Bear Lake with a goal and 2 assists in their 6-1 win over Park this week.
Taner Gimberlin had 3 assists as Morris/Benson defeated Windom 5-1.
Gavin Payne is leading a resurgent Orono side in scoring, picking up 2 goals in their 5-1 win over Faribault and a goal and 6 assists in the 9-3 win over Providence Academy.
Tristan Knott leads Red Lake Falls in scoring, and picked up 2 goals and an assist in their Tuesday win over Kittson Central 5-2.
