Schwan Cup Curse?

2010: Hill-Murray beats Tonka in the Schwan Cup and Loses to WBL in section finals.
2009: Minnetonka beats Edina in Schwan Cup and loses to them in state finals.
Since the tournament's beginning in 2001 no team (or very few teams, I don't recall who won the first few years) has won the Schwan Cup and the State Championship in the same year. Is there any reason for this? Or is it just pure coincidence? Will Duluth East break the curse?

I'd say Duluth East has a good shot this year...share your thoughts.

Because one tournament is played in December and the other in March?

Odd the site itself doesn't list them, especially after it says they've had it since 2001. In the earlier years there were less divisions.
If anyone who went this year (or in past years) still has their program and wouldn't mind PMing me the winners, I could update that list.

Past champions
2001-02 Roseville (Holy Angels wins state)
2002-03 Elk River (Anoka wins state)
2003-04 Centennial (Centennial wins state)
2004-05 White Bear Lake (Holy Angels wins state)
2005-06 Holy Angels (Cretin wins state)
2006-07 Holy Angels (Roseau wins state)
2007-08 Minnetonka (Hill Murray wins state)
2008-09 Edina (Eden Prairie wins state)
2009-10 Minnetonka (Edina wins state)
2010-11 Minnetonka (Eden Prairie wins state)
It is true notwithstanding 2004 that no Schwan winner (gold at least) has ever won state. They can say that because it wasn't the Schwan until the 2006 season. Before that it was the Capital City Classic. Schwan doesn't list the earlier tournaments because they weren't the Schwan tournament.

Just because there was a change in corporate sponsorship doesn't make it a different tournament. That's a distinction without a difference. Would you say that Mall of America Field at the Metrodome has never hosted a Super Bowl?
Of course not.
There is no jinx; just two tournaments that are both difficult to win.

There is no Schwan Cup curse, and there is n't a Sports Illustrated cover, Chunky Soup, NFL Madden, or curse of the Billy goat. The Curse of the Great Bambino only took about 60 years to break - who knows. There's something there, maybe just planting the seed about it, is enough to give doubt. We will see come every March. The longer it goes the more credence these things get.

I agree with most of what you said....just a small math correction
Curse of the Bambino = 2004 -1918 = 86 years...we can all agree that it was a bad move to sell Babe Ruth to the Yankees

Based on my memory, and the fact that the 2010 Schwan Cup History tab verifies it, the 2010 Schwan Cup gold division champion was Hill Murray (they beat Tonka 5-3 in the finals). Just want to make sure the appropriate team was represented as the Gold division champions, as edinahornetkid originally mentioned.
