Two teams playing very good hockey right now, the Crusaders recently defeated Warroad and the Hawks recently defeated Grand Rapids, both on the road.

There are few teams remaining on either schedule that seem like a loss is even possible; with huge section implications neither team will take this game lightly.

Cathedral gave Hermantown their second loss 3 years ago; can they give them their first this year?

7-2 Hawks. Breck and STA are the only A teams with a prayer of beating Hermantown.

5-1 Hermantown. Gotta agree with rainier, there's only two single A teams in the state that can challenge the Hawks.

Hermantown is on a different level than SCC. Hawks by at least four.

A Hounds fan living in Proctor jumping on the Hermantown bandwagon

Hawks by 2 (3 if LeBlanc keeps it to 2 penalties)

the only way cathedral wins this one is if the zamboni gets out of control and runs over half of the hermantown team

I don't think he is a herm fan just knows they have a very good team this year and does not try to disparage them. I respect that. I'm not an east fan, but I will still say that they have also have a very good team.

Hermantown beats CHS 2-1. Closer than most expected

First two periods were dominated by Hermantown but only had one goal to show for it. Amundson was great in goal for SCC. Third period went back and forth with both teams getting goals. Hermantown took a penalty with 2 minutes left in the game. One pipe and numerous opportunities for SCC but Hermantown closed the deal. If both teams make it, should make a great section final.

Hermantown hit a couple of pipes as did SCC, both teams missed open nets on at least two occasions and a few more times Hermantown's goalie was way out of position and SCC couldn't get a handle on the puck and put it away. SCC's goalie kept that team in the game. Both teams played a great game as far as penalties went. I think there were three of them called all night. SCC tried to play a lot of the dump and chase game which feeds right into the teeth of Hermantown as it put SCC's forwards up against Hermantown's D and nobody is gonna win that battle and come out with the puck that doesn't have a hawk on the front of their jersey. It is pretty much an automatic turnover. Hermantown's D is what coaches try to get their D to look like, if they are not the best group at D in the state I would be surprised. The forwards played very well. It looked like they were rolling three lines for most of the night. All in all this was an interesting game that is going to result in a nail biter down the road for the section final.

Accurate summary of the game. Also, both goals for Herm scored by D-men.

Hermantown outshot Cathdral in the first period, equal shots in the second period and Cathdral outshot Hermantown in the third. Cathdral needed a period to overcome the spin about Hermantown invincibility. Cathedral played even or better from the second period on. Play this game on neutral ice and it goes the other way. Hermantown defense played very well.

Puck76 you just may get your wish having both these teams play on neutral ice, but to say the game would go to SCC is a misstatement, just ask Grand Rapids. I supporse if Hermantown would have played them on neutral ice, you could assume they would add some more cusion to their win? rediculous.

Your name says it all. Hermantown plays close to what is unanimously considered a lower team and supporters come to defend them then keep calling them the best team in the state. They are a top 3 team, but not a top 2 team, who has been susceptible to to playing close with lower teams.

They definitely have good coaching as they were able to do the one thing against Marshall that St Thomas/Breck didn't seem to know to do yet, but it appears if you have solid defense, then you'll be able to play them close. If they make it to the X, they'll potentially have to get through 2-3 teams with good defense.

Or maybe I'm still blind and there's something I can't see \:D/

There is a Jekyll and Hyde split to this Hermantown team that is going to have to be fixed. They have great D with the only possible flaw being that when they get on a roll they start to take some dumb penalties. Seems like if their D leadership lets their guard down they pick up a few of those dumb head contact behind the play ones. THe forwards hustle for the most part but they have a line that seems to be either cruising sometimes or are a little bit lost. Several times last night one of their wingers would be standing on the blue line splitting the D rather than in the corner working for the puck, not sure if that was a design or not but seemed strange. I have wondered before if the coaching staff is giving some of the younger more inexperienced kids some ice time to see who might step forward that can be used down the line.

I don't think that game would have gone the other way on a neutral sheet of ice. I still think that Hermantown would have won it. The biggest question for next time is how is that Cathedral goalie going to play? I think that if you look at that game the clearest difference was between the pipes. The SCC kid kept his team in that game from start to finish. If he was having one of those lights out nights and he does not come through with it next time they meet SCC is going to get creamed on the other hand if that was his normal game .......

The stronger team in the third period WAS Cathedral. Bottom line was that it was a very entertaining game and well played by TWO talented teams. I think both teams had many chances, strong plays and some weak plays. I suspect that the fans of each team will wear their rose colored glasses to see what they want to see from it. Each team recognizes they will need a strong effort if they play again and I believe they will all work harder to make that second chance a success for themselves. It is why they play the game. The Cathdral fans may have a deeper shade of rose to their glasses today since Cathedral played well with a team that the consensus said they were not in the same league with (and they didn't even need that Zamboni driver to decimate Hermantown to do it). I look forward to that rematch and hope it happens.

Section 5A could be a very interesting one. Rogers only lost to Hermantown 2-1 as well. Should be fun to watch come early march!

Anything to keep your beloved St. Thomas AAA team at number 2 Watcher. Yea, STA absolutely the top 2 team. Heck, after Brecks loss I think you can justify putting them at #1! Go BLADES, I mean STA...
