Settle down big boy. Maybe someone needs to check your hay bales for *enhancements* There is no doubt you have a gauntlet up there but not sure why you are hoofing your chest? Dissatisfied with not getting the LOVE?

It really has been an enjoyable year watching these team play each other. NWSC has many good goalies. What has caught my eye has been the defensive play of some of these teams. Most of these teams end up in section 5AA, the team that does come out, either a NWSC or other, should represent in state well, might not win, but should be respectable.
Elks do go to section 7AA, should be an easy ride for them, but they have a good team. The fun starts this week, good luck to all the girls.

I disagree. I think the South Central conference is much more well-balanced.

Well good then, I expect them to do well in sections and represent at state. I'm not sold on Anoka myself. And neither 5AA nor 7AA have the teams that 4AA and 6AA have, but the answer will be proven on the ice...

Looks like North Metro gave Benilde all they could handle. Same with Arm-Coop vs. Tonka. Same with Maple Grove (#3 seed in section 6AA?). I know, not a fair comparison (top seeds vs. bottom seeds). NW Suburban has some very good teams at the top, but are not strong top to bottom. Lake Conference is strong all the way around, but again not a fair comparison since only 5 teams. They've sent two teams to state the past two or three years (one championship and two second place finishes the last two seasons) and might again this year if Tonka can get by Benilde.
Agree with the other poster, let's enjoy the ride and watch all the teams settle it on the ice. In the end, it's not always the best team that wins, but it's the team playing the best at the end. This season, it could be one of many. Should be fun to watch.

It's now official that the title of this thread will be nominated for the Preposterous Statement of the Year Award. They are really lucky that Irondale and Moundsview were on the same side of the bracket or the NWC wouldn't even have a team left in the Section finals.

Mounds View is in the Suburban East conference not the NWC

Yes, that was the point--if Irondale and MV were on opposites sides they would now be meeting in the Section final. Meaning both would have beaten all the NWC teams. Get it? Except Irondale got eliminated by MV....

Your assuming that Irondale would have beaten any of the other teams from the NWC, no one will know, as they did not get a chance, they are out

I wrote earlier in the season, under a different forum topic, that I felt Anoka was overrated at #2. At that time my point was that if they remained overrated it would affect seedings at state in a negative way. No one seemed to agree.
No longer a concern, but I noticed that it's not just fans of the conference that overestimate the strength. In the QRF ratings that came out TODAY Anoka retains a #2 ranking. I assume this is because the conference was overrated as a whole, but am still confused by it.
The only favorable results from the conference are:
Anoka win over Tonka - first game of season
Anoka win over #9 Eagan
Blaine tie with Edina - also first game of season
There are no other favorable results vs. top 10 competition (except for games, within the conference, between Elk and Anoka)
Notable negative results for the conference's top teams:
Elk ties EP
Centennial lost to EP (3rd in Lake Conference) Hopkins (4th in Lake), and tied Wayzata (5th out of 5 in Lake)
Andover lost to Buffalo, Tonka (Lake) and Edina (Lake)
Maple Grove lost to Wayzata (Lake)
None of the NCS teams played Hill, Roseville, or either Lakeville. It might be that the conference is so large they lack the opportunity rather than the desire.
Still, rankings were maybe off this year?

It's over!
Molly Illikainen with a snipe for the winner 2:36 into OT 4
GRG 2- ERZ 1
Blaine is the last team standing for NWSC??? Who could have predicted that. Good luck to the Bengals tonight!

I would have to say that the rankings were way off this year for the NWSC teams.
For all you haters out there:
Irondale beat Grand Rapids twice this year (5-2 in Grand Rapids).

Grand Rapids/Greenway vs. NW Suburban teams this year:
11/26/11 - GR/G 1, Blaine 4
01/13/12 - GR/G 2, ER/Z 3
01/28/12 - GR/G 3, Andover 2 (OT)
And the one that counts the most:
02/16/12 - GR/G 2, ER/Z 1 (4OT)
Overall record against some of the best in the NW Suburban was 2-2, so they were definitely very competitive.

Not sure what you are trying to point out. Irondale was a very solid squad. I'm just surprised by two #1 seeds failing to make the dance. And I'm certainly rooting for Blaine to make it tonight. I only wish 4AA and 5AA played their finals at the same place on the same night like the boys do.

Same with 2AA and 6AA - always a fun night at Mariucci. They could have the girls at Parade and pack the place.

Well now it's official and we can incinerate and bury this thread. NWC teams scattered over 3 sections have all been eliminated. By the Lake, SEC, and poor old GRG.

AND I'll put this thread to bed by saying look at the original thought here CAPITALIST.. Toughest conference, not who is gonna make it out of section tourney. As we all know, there are some lesser teams who are good enough on some days that can beat some teams who are rated higher. The NWSC had more teams in their conference that were of high quality and come section time there were 6 teams that could have come out of that section. More than any section..Period, Cant argue that one... You knew that one of the Lakevilles were going to the finals, you KNEW Mtka or Benilde were going, you knew Hill or Roseville, or Stillwater were going, you knew Elk River or GR were probably going. Section 5AA had 6 teams that if they came out, you werent have been surprised. Any of those 6 teams who would have won, it would not have really been an upset. CONGRATS MV.
RECAP,1. Just because your team was upset, doesnt mean your conference is inferior-just means you lost a game at the wrong time. 2. CAPITAL is happy a ramsey Co. school beat a NWSC school, 3. Strenghth of schedule has merit, cant play bad teams to pad win totals and then wonder why your ranked lower. Alright good thread- its now officially over, Good luck to those teams who pulled it out in the end.

Quick addendum. Lake Conference - 40% of its teams made it to state each of the last 3 years. 2 state titles, 2 second place finishes, and a 3rd place finish in the past 3 years. Agreed, not even close, although SEC is certainly a deserving runner-up.
