What are your thoughts in having D6 splitting the schedule so that Waconia, new Prague, Shakopee, and Kennedy getting to play each other three times while only playing Edina, EP, CC, Minnetonka, Burnsville, Jefferson and PL only once. Edina, EP, CC, Minnetonka, Burnsville, Jefferson, and PL play each other twice and the other four teams once.

The districts are affected for example because Waconia and Shakopee will likely get the 5&6 seed, where the 5 seed gets an auto bid into the double elimination tourney. Thoughts?

Does not seem right from a seeding perspective. However, I think its a good thing that the top end teams do not have to play the lower end teams multiple times and vice-versa. Nobody gets better in 10+ goal differential games. If D6 doubled the points where teams only played each other one-time, the system would probably work fine. That is, of course, assuming that Waconia/Shakopee are not beating the teams they play once.

leave it to d6 to be the dumbest league in the state

same league that tried to tell its players to not skate at mn made

d6: you have the most talent, the most tradition...possibly the most passion of any district in the state...probably more state youth championships, do yourself a favor get out of the way of a good thing

Maybe D6 is just preparing for the Split class system that will be in place next year.

Makes sense to me. Much better for the top programs to play each other more frequently. Also if you look at the final seedings; Burnsville, PL, EP and Edina will end 1-4; New Prague #5 and Minnetonka #6. I think all would agree they are the top 6 teams in D6 this year.

What? Waconia is dead last and Shakopee will probably end up 7th.
There are no teams affected by this.

I was referencing PWA. Sounds like some were talking bout bantams. I have no problem playing Edina, ep, etc. 2 and 3 times a season.....but then it should not affect playoff seedings. There are teams affected in pwa

I understand the downside and the upside for the teams on the lower tier of the district, but it sounds like "everyone gets a trophy". I agree it kinda stinks to be on either side of a beating, but that is where the kids get the education. If that was to be done, there would have to be some sort of mathematical equation to place teams in standings for playoffs.

And that's the problem with the system D6 came up with. Tonka is much better than Waconia and yet they are battling to be the 4th seed. Waconia plays 3 games each against the 2 worst teams in the league - Kennedy and New Prague - 3 games against a mediocre team from Shakopee and only 1 game each against the rest of the teams. 5 of the 7 teams that D6 put in the ‘1 game each’ category for Waconia are in the top 20 in the State. Tonka is currently ranked 8th overall in the State.

Tonka has to play 2 games each against #1 Prior Lake, #6 Edina, #7 Eden Prairie, #16 Jefferson, Burnsville and Chaska and only gets to play the bottom 2 teams once. They beat Waconia 4-0 and, if the seedings were based on strength of schedule - they would easily be the 4th seed instead of Waconia.

The problem is that D6 didn't factor the lopsided scheduling into the playoff system - you get seeded based on your record and that's it. Being seeded in the top 5 means you’re in the double elimination round of the tournament. Burnsville even has it worse - they beat Waconia 10-4 and Shakopee 5-3 but are in 8th place. They will have to play and win 3 single elimination games to even get to the double elimination round and have a chance at Waconia. Jefferson is also a ranked team (#16) but they will likely start in the single elimination round hoping to play their way in.

I know that the argument is that it makes no sense to have a bunch of blow out games…it’s not fun for either team and doesn’t help you get better. But, you are either a Peewee A caliber team or you're not. D6 is saying by this scheduling that there are 4 teams - Waconia, Shakopee, Kennedy and New Prague - that are really not at the Peewee A level. It could be fine if they factored that into their seedings but they don't.

The best system would be to have everyone play 20 league games (2 times each) but the next best option would be to have weaker teams play most teams twice and a couple of teams once. Playing 9 games against each other and then not factor it in playoff seedings is really not thinking things through.

Waconia won over Kennedy and I believe they got fair play point

Perfectly said!

It created a much better experience for all teams during the regular season, but the lower 4 teams should not have been seeded higher than the other teams for the playoffs. The lower teams should have been required to play each other in preliminary playoff rounds, and the best team from that lower group earns the right to play into double elimination. Still a great experience for the lower teams who get a taste of the playoffs, but doesn't punish the teams with the tougher schedule.

That would have been a good solution also and then you could leave the regular season schedule as is with them playing more games against each other. If they were seeded 8, 9, 10 & 11 they'd still have a chance to get into double elimination but would not have benefited quite so much with the easier schedule.
