Going with Burnsville in a mild upset 4-3 OT

The Edina D looked shaky, at best, vs Jefferson Saturday. Burnsville has been playing very well and could easily win if they press the Hornet D.

Hornets 4-3.

Either way, I have a feeling this one will not be decided in 51 minutes. Going with the Blaze 3-2 in OT.

I've seen both teams numerous times this year. Here's my breakdown:

Goaltending -slight edge to Burnsville and Mallon

Defense - edge to Edina

Forwards - edge to Edina with their 2nd and 3rd line size and speed

Experience - Both teams have been in this game. Last chance to make state for the Burnsville seniors. Slight edge to the Blaze.

Special Teams - I think this game comes down to the Blaze PP vs. the Hornet PK. Whoever wins this game within the game, wins the prize: a berth in the 2012 State Tourney.

bb's choice:

Edina 4-2 (en)...

No question; Burnsville should win this game 5-2. They have more offense and their goalie is hot right now. The only danger they have is if their defense tries to do too much. They must just play D or they will give Edina chances that will end up killing them. Penalties will also cause issues so Burnsville has to stay out of the box. Edina is good but this is the year that Burnsville takes it.

im alittle nervous for this game, i hope Edina plays with all there cylinders rolling. If they do they win easilly 5-1 but i think the game will be closer. more like 4-2 or 4-3.

At the beginning of the season, I pre-predicted Burnsville would win this game. As much as I believe Giles is a clown and I am rooting against him, the young team has performed extremely well this season.

Hurley 2 goals, Malmquist 1 goal, L. Nanne 1 goal; Benjamin is stellar and Edina wins 4-1.

My heart is with burnsville but my head is with edina. The only thing I se possibly hurting edina is their youth but I think with the game on big ice their speed will take over.
Hornets win 4-2

Edina up 3-1 after 1.

Burnsville scored 50 seconds in, but Edina absolutely dominated for the next 10 minutes--the goal was Burnsville's only SOG for the first half of the period. Since the 3rd Hornet goal, they've started to get to their game and look better. If they keep playing like that they'll have a chance to climb back into this one.

3-2 Edna after 2

3-2 after 2.

The first half of the second was deathly dull, as Edina was content to possess the puck without generating any real chances and Burnsville was content to ice the puck time after time. But Burnsville struck on a delayed penalty and brought things back to life; they've had some extra jump since then, and Edina has produced some good chances since, too.

Burnsville has been relying heavily on their top two lines. If they can hold up through the 3rd, they have a real shot to pull it off.

Edina up 5 - 3, 1:13 to go in the game. Edina will draw the number 2 seed in the state and will face DE in the finals.

Nice win for the Hornets--6 in a row. Burnsville did a nice job of fighting back from a 2-goal deficit, but Edina took over after that. The Blaze just didn't have the depth to run with the Hornets, and Hurley's very pretty goal for the 5th Edina score put it away.

It was a good season for the Blaze, but Edina's on its way back to the X once again. Nice job by Curt Giles and crew to continue their dominance despite their youth. They won't be a favorite, but they have the ability to make a run while there.

Hurley's 2nd goal was absolutely beautiful, he is one great player. the only thing that concerned me for the hornets was Benjamin. Edina outshot them 35 to 12 and he gave up 3 goals, to me he looked very nervous. He just needs to get back to his game where he can have 30+ saves if it is needed which he has done a couple of times. Once they get to the tourney he just needs to calm his nerves and Edina could be a real dangerous team there

Not if their goalie is as shaky as he was tonight.

Was a great game to watch but Benjamin will need to play significantly better and with a lot more confidence for the Hornets to make any noise at State. Hurley's 2nd goal was a thing of beauty. Kid can play.

"Shaky" would be an understatement. He had extreme difficulty with low percentage angle shots.

Burnsville can never seem to get by Edina. It would've been nice to see the Blaze at state again.

There is no way Edina is seeded over MG if MG makes it (better record overall and they beat Edina both times they played). I am assuming you are telling us that Blaine is going to win.

Now they can still certainly face DE in the finals as I think they can edge out Eagan (provided they don't fall into a coma like they almost did against Park) and BSM for the #3.
