It would be quicker to list the players not making it.

Interesting, not a single Minnetonka player on first or second team. Then again they'll all be back for next year.

This is not the real list IMHO. Not to take anything away from those on the list - but this is the part that is problematic when your area doesn't have representation:
as voted on by statewide media:
Those players on the MGHCA Coaches Assn list should also be on this list and I trust that the MGHCA list is a better representation. I also don't think that we should have so many "All State" or "Honorable Mention" players. Does anyone remember when there was a "First Team" only? Maybe a "Second Team" tops as "Honorable Mention" and that meant only a first set of 6 (3F, 2D, 1G) and another set of 6 similarly again?

Look at the top. There is a First Team and Second Team. Honorable mention is below the Second Team. Reading that list is not required.

I do see that and that was exactly my point. I agree that we have a choice to read.

Can we just agree that no matter what the list is, or who posts it, there will be disappointment with the content.....

Congrats to the girls making this one.

I totally agree. There's never a consensus on these awards. IMO its a beauty contest in which different organizations use varied criteria. Here's my opinion on some of the organizations.

The AP is made up of journalists and we all know how much they follow girls hockey. The AP typically puts a lot of emphasis on stats of players from top programs and word of mouth.

The Pioneer Press is trying to sell newspapers in the East Metro so they heavily tilt awards to their readership.

The Star Tribune does the same but their readership is largely the Metro.

MGHCA is the coaches' picks which I think is probably the most informed but people should understand that the coaches use more than just hockey to make their selections. Character issues, violations and/or other factors can disqualify a player.

Personally, since almost everyone of these girls will make a living from their brains and not their hockey acumen I like the Academic All-State Awards. Its probably the most objective award. Unfortunately I can't find it posted anywhere which is too bad because I like to see girls rewarded when they can play sports and keep their grades high.

There are some girls on that list that are freshman in college this year. Some accuracy issues.
