Can't really argue with any of those selections. Congratulations to those selected!

Very surprised by some of the players selected for the 2nd and 3rd teams and more surprised by some of the names left off.

The more I think about it, there were definitely some snubs. Zajac and Wolffe from Eagan both should have at least made the 2nd or 3rd team, Sampair and Lavalle from Hill-Murray, Letierri and Shuldt from Minnetonka, Labosky and Horn from BSM, Chapman from Burnsville, sure there are a few more I am not thinking of.

yah i believe horn was one of the biggest snubs-especially considering his scoring outburst the past two games.

That really speaks to the depth of quality players this year. The players you listed are all great players and they will all go on to bigger things than MN HS Hockey which says a lot about the talent level this year.

These lists are prepared by a for-profit newspaper. Don't need to reach for your tinfoil hat to imagine that the honors are going to be spread out, and awarded with at least half-an-eye focused on the Strib's circulation map.

Coatta and Rothstein? How does Zajac and Horn not make it.

Ithought Zajac would be a lock for at least 3rd team. Congrats to all the boys, good job.

Don't think I would take anyone off. They are all well-deserved and obviously good players. It is hard to pick when they are so many kids that can play.

Not sure how much you watched Tonka play the last few yrs, but Rothstein is an absolute beast, and IMHO very underrated. Plays a very similar game to Merchant and Zajac. Coatta has played on one of Tonka's first 2 lines since he was a freshman and is a little sniper. His older brother was pretty damn good too. I def think Coatta and Rothstein deserved it, I would probably throw Erik Baskin in there too. Zajac did get hosed though. No doubt.

I don't want to single out any players but I think this is one of the more poor jobs the Star Trib has done on their all metro selections.

minnscout...what is your beef with Tonka? you ever go to any tonka games in the lake conference? You should have seen Rothstein dominate night in and night out. Check out his stats against top teams on the hockey hub. you dont have a clue. Horn may have more points but anyone can do that to Chisago Lakes and Cooper.

Looks like they might have capped the number of players from any one team at 2. If that's the case, then you'd have to pick Zajak over Merchant, and if you wanted Letierri, you'd need to drop either Coatta or Rothstein.
Which is what the Pioneer Press did, actually. Guess that it's good that at each of these deserving players made it on at least
one of these lists.

Did they skip the interviews/spreadsheet this year? That's usually the best part.

Knowitall, I saw Tonka play 10-12 times this year. I agree and so do my previous posts that Rothstein was very under rated and the best scorer on Tonka. Now if u saw Horn play this year including going in and out of the Tonka forwards and D you would understand he is on another level than Coatta or Rothstein. Both are very good bit not better than Horn or a few others as well. Yes Coatta played Varsity as Freshman but he would have been Sophomore, just like he should be graduating this year (April birth day). June or later should be Juniors anything earlier to old.

Congrats to all 19 boys listed!! Well deserved! agree that Baskin, Schult and Horn should have been on a Honorable Mention list. Unfortunately for Horn playing in the weaker conference probably his chances.

minnscout- If you look at common opponents during the regular season, Rothstein outscores both Zajac and Horn, and has more assists than Zajac. He's tied with Horn for assists, and this includes the 7-assist game Horn had when Benilde annihilated Holy Angels 15-2. Given Tonka's much more difficult schedule than either of the other 2 teams, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that Rothstein doesn't belong on that list. This isn't to knock 2 very deserving players, but Rothstein is at least as strong as those 2.

Star-Trib asks, "What do you try to do on a penalty shot?"
Franke answers, "Stop the puck."
Gotta luv it.

Yes please look at common opponents. Tonka played Holy Angels and I didn't see those guys put up 7 assists. Look at player versus player and anyone that has any hockey knowledge would pick Horn. Head to head Horn destroyed both those guys.

And the question about the best long hair (flow?) and the Cadet says, "Uh, I go to St. Thomas."

Is there an honorable mention list?

Yeah, not so much. According to the Hockey Hub, in the games with their 9 common opponents, Rothstein had 7 goals and 14 assist. Horn had 6 goals and 14 assists. I'm not disputing that Horn is a talented player, just your assertion that he's far superior to the other 2.
