What happened to the information on the Squirt B State Tournament that I believe YHH was sponsoring? I couldn't find anything on the webpage, but it was there a few days ago.

Pretty sure squirt's dont have a state tournament...it might have been by accident and was mean't for Pee Wee B

They don't have an official tournament, it was a tournament that I believe was sponsored by YHH to bring in some of the better squirt B teams this weekend. Just wondering why all information was scrubbed from the site or if it has been cancelled.

Totally guessing here, but some of those teams might be getting close to the maximum number of games a squirt team can play in a season. Fargo is 5-6 games and districts can add 3-4.

I think squirts are supposed to play only 35 games (scrimmages are usually included in that total).

Any other theories? Maybe D6 put a nix on it.

D6 shut Minnetonka and the Edina teams down.

State tourney? Squirt B.

YHH is hosting a squirt tournament at Braemar this weekend and there will be some great hockey. The kids participating will have a State Tournament experience (sung national anthem, helmet-less player introductions, goal judges, 3 stars of the game, etc)

That is the purpose of calling it the State Tournament.

We expect to have full game recaps tomorrow night after the first round.

Will the teams be using the same roster they had for the regular season? Will the kids be covered by a D6/USA Hockey insurance policy if they are injured? Do these games count against a team's game limit?

I hope the kids have a blast, but calling this "the State Tournament" is a really bad idea. YHH should stick to reporting on tournaments.

Looked on the Mn Hockey site for sanctioned tournaments at the Squirt B level and this one is not listed.
If referees wear their patches could get into trouble, games could count as scrimmages and count against the cap.
I would recommend not using the words State Tournament as it is not a state but an open tournament. If the idea is to get Mn Hockey to have regional and state tournaments at the Squirt and Girls 10 levels in the future good luck. The game cap would have to be raised and there is little chance of that or the district leagues would have to cut back by 6-8 games and that is highly doubtful.last teams would have to drop at least 2 invitational tournaments and a lot of associations who use tournaments as fund raisers would really be upset. Why didn't you wait until after the Mn Hockey state tournaments to hold your invitational tournament?

Last I checked the State Hockey tournament ended a week ago. I can't believe people are getting all worked up over Squirt B hockey. Can everyone remember that this is youth hockey! Let the kids have some fun. After all, that's what it is about, right?

Actually the Minnesota State Tournaments are going on this weekend.

No one would have any problem with this tournament if they hadn't picked State Tournament as the name (and played it on State Tournament weekend).

I'm sure this tournament was really fun for all the kids who were invited to play. But giving the winner a trophy that says "State Champion" is unfair to every other Squirt player in the state. I've lost a lot of respect for YHH.

You got to be kidding, right? My bad about the MN Hockey tournaments. If you think there is any hidden agenda then it proves that EVERYONE worries way to much about the politics and loses track that this is YOUTH Hockey. Out of the thousands of kids that play hockey in this state, only a small percentage play college hockey. So if your in it for that, your delusional. Invest that money in in the lottery. You have a better chance.

You italicized invited. I can assure you that every top team in the state was invited, but for several reasons they could not come. I won't name those teams or why. But let's just say this, only 1 chose not to play....the rest were crushed when they couldn't.

The event this weekend has been a blast for the kids (and the tournament director). Meeting so many people that I've spoken to and texted all season and seeing the kids just play some good hockey has been very rewarding.

Sidebar: The South Rink at Braemar is the best rink there is for Squirt hockey. It's small enough that the noise and energy is amazing. The ice is great...the sound system and site lines are great for the fans, too.

I'm 100% in favor of giving the kids a state tournament experience (as I've always been). I just think calling it the State Tournament was a mistake. Many teams couldn't play because their season ended weeks ago, they were at the max limit of games they could play, or they were still playing their district tournaments. The district champions were not represented in your tournament as they are in the real State Tournaments.

Does the winning team get a trophy that says "State Champion"? That just doesn't seem right.

PM to discuss the the invited teams - speaking publicly about who was invited and not would be in poor taste. But I can assure you that we did it extremely fair and balanced to get the best teams in the field.

Not much point in doing an A level as a certain green and white team has not lost a game in squirt A in 2 years.

Not much point in doing an A level as a certain green and white team has not lost a game in squirt A in 2 years.

That was part of it...the other part was the fact that Fargo does a pretty good job of flushing the best team in MN out (sorry to sibley and andover who did not get in)...fargo does not do it much justice on the b level.

I'm curious why you say Fargo doesn't do much justice to the B level. Is it because the Minnesota teams rarely win the B level? And Andover, like every other District 10 team, was not left out, they are unable to go because Fargo is the same time as the District 10 tournament.

D2 got rid of district tourny because everyone would rather go to Fargo.
