YHH will host another year end Squirt Tournament this year. This year we will host both A and B levels. We expect all of the top teams from around the state to participate. Within two hours we have commitments from 5 associations.

Just got word today that MN Hockey has verbally agreed to sanction this tournament (application pending).
This is good news for YHH, bad news for those associations that didn't want to have to count these games toward their 35 minimum.

Received commitments this week from a District 15 team, District 12 team, District 9 team and a check from District 8.
Really excited about the outstate interest - they seem really excited about coming to the cities late in the season. Pro Outstate fans say that their kids are primed in March where the Metro kids are sometimes burnt out (interesting observation).

Don't you think it was a big mistake making it a sanctioned tournament,
It seems to me an association would be taking a big risk if they are not chosen, it also seems like a lot of money for 3 games.

2 good points.
1. Sanctioning was by far the better move for all parties (kids, parents, coaches, YHH, MNH). For lots of reasons....the game counts at Squirts is our biggest battle. It seems that each district treat games differently.
2. Money-wise the cost includes all gate fees...thus making the cost in line with most tournaments.
Our tournament hopes to attract and place the top 16 teams in the state in one venue- a claim no tournament makes at the end of the year.
Thanks for your comment Save...feedback from you guys is important in order to put on a great event.

The list of teams is growing...spoke with Hermantown today. They are itching to show how good they are at the Squirt level.

H-town is going to be down this year...they also have not beaten Superior in the past three years. Any teams from D5 yet?

No interest from D5 yet. Thanks for the reminder.
Interesting note on H-Town. They are an emerging program...you'd think that they'd perform better at the Squirt level. Superior would have been a top 5 team in MN last year had we ranked them (we may rank them this year because they play in D11) - so losing to them is not exactly a kick in the pants.
Superior is high on our watch list for an at-large bid this Spring.
