Unscientifically we did our best to rank the top teams in AAA this year. More video insights as well. Please chime in...we know they aren't perfect.
Enjoy,

That Reebok Nats pick in the 2001's is suspect.
4th place in Shock Doctor Open (2-2)
Last place in Warrior Cup Open (0-3)
List of better 2001 teams:
- Machine Black
- Ice Edge Black
- Northern Wings
- CCM Elite
- MN Pride
- Warrior
- EuroAmerican
On the bright side, your other 2001 picks were spot on.
Note for Scout2, Blades (aka Sweet Hockey Selects) lost to Machine in Caribou pool play. Then came back to win in championship game.

I happen to be at the Caribou and watched a few of the '01 games...Pitlicks team was missing Pitlick. I don't think the Machine got the full Blades team.
I also think the '01 Nats are an average team at best...Tony you know something we don't? The team that won the Shock Doctor smoked everyone...who were they?

How about LSS at the '01 level, I think they rolled in the Warrior Cup, not sure about the rest of the year.

Great point about '01 LSS. They also won the Meltdown Invite. I always forget if they are a MN or WI team.
Either way, they are in that group of "near-elite" teams that should be ranked above the Nats.

For those of us new to AAA hockey, could you answer one question, were the 99,00,01 Machine the best teams from the beginning or have they become the best teams, is it talent or coaching? Will the 2002 blades stay together or fall a part because the brick is over?

I'm from WI and I definitely consider LSS as a MN (Duluth) team. I'm sure a few kids from Superior play for them but Superior to us is basically MN and not part of WI either

Your first question relates, I think, to how much turnover there is/has been/will be with each team. the 99s and 00s have had a solid core for three, four years. The 01s have seen some turnover. I think it's a combination of attracting elite talent, AND keeping them there with outstanding coaching (this is true of Blades as well. Other programs are probably too young to make this judgment call.)
Winning all the time at the highest levels helps keep kids around, and it also keeps the occasional tryout highly competitive. Related note: Good coaches tend to make a few enemies each summer, and what I call "very talented hockey parents" get itchy feet, especially if they see EuroAmerican or Miracle Gold putting out solid teams.
IMO, the Brick is likely to cause more turnover at the Blades, as more people become aware of elite summer hockey and put that much more pressure on the system and the Blades organization at the 10-year-old level. The Brick team will stick together for the remainder of the year and then probably erode a little with top talent looking for AAA options closer to home (the newer programs expanding means not having to travel to Braemar or Mn Made for an invite-level team).

The ice edge black 01 team won the warrior cup this year. LSS wasn't in it I don't think. No way are the Nats 5th but it doesn't really matter because those top 2 teams are dominant over everyone else.

What amazes me is that 02 Machine Black is not listed in this ranking. They beat EuroAmerica and Miracle Gold in tournaments this summer, and finished their season 18-0-1.
I also think they beat Legacy but I cannot recall for certain.

Observer, please, enlighten me. From my calculations there are 15 skaters and a goalie, by definition, this would constitute a team.

Bardapony:
Not a team if you have 4-6 kids from Org come to play in tournys.

From what I understand 02 Machine Black had 13 unique players on the team at the beginning of the year and finished with 14 unique players at the end of the year.
Were there Orange players who filled in? From what I understand, Yes, but I fail to see how that states that they are not a real team by having 2 kids fill in from the Org team as you put it.

Who really even cares what the rankings are for SUMMER AAA...
The only people who care are the parents of AAA teams. YHH should stick to ranking District teams.
As for how many org kids played with the black teams this year. It all depends on what tourny and what kids are playing from the b lack team. I know first hand that 4 kids played in all but 1 tourny. The 4 kids that did play also got way more ice time then any other black player.
So like i said you are wrong they should not call them a team they should be called trophy crashers...

Kids, coaches, and parents are interested. How is ranking District teams any different?

So, what you are claiming is that 02 Black constantly had four players from orange fill in and had much more ice time than the black kids....
So, in essence, what you are stating is that if the black team had four full time orange players fill in for every tournament that the 02 black team shouldn't be considered a hockey team but rather "trophy crashers"?

The rankings were one guy's opinion. He didn't have the 02 Machine Black in the top 5 -- maybe he had them 6th. Bardapony, on your list, where would they be ranked? The best thing I have heard about the 02 Black came from one of their dads who said he thought they could beat the Blades.

Eh, I'm surprised they were not listed given that they beat 3 of the 5 teams on that list. I don't believe they would beat the 02 Blades or Machine Orange.
