So, if I understand it correctly, Edina has lost Benny Walker, Louie Nanne, Collin Munson, and Jack Walker, all to higher levels of hockey. On top of this, Tyler Nanne has a broken back and Matt Dulas has another concussion.

With only two solid returning players, Reno and Nelson, does Edina have any chance of a winning season? Just to clarify, we all know they'll qualify for State, they are in a very easy bracket....but will they be able to be competitive team with a mostly JV level Varsity team?

Should be pretty easy for those young guys to make the team this year!

You didn't mention Connor Hurley? Isn't he back? I was most impressed with him at State last year.

Munson hasn't gone anywhere. Hurley, Fidler, Malmquist??? Jordahl, Brauer, etc. Ben Walker left last year so somewhat irrelevant. hornethockeymom or imposter?

Edina was awfully young. They'll be fine.

Another odd thing about your post is that you question whether they'll be able to have a winning season, then say they are a shoo-in to reach the state tournament.

Easy section, maybe the cart before the horse. The tournament is still 4 months off. You know nothing about how any team will be. You cannot judge a team by their record last year. I am sure there are people from: Prior Lake, Burnsville, Bloomington, AHA that might want a say. Just saying.

Bennie Walker was not on the team last year and they seamed to do pretty well without him...

Louie Nanne is a solid player but not a game changer by any means.

Where did Cullen Munson go?...And if he is gone, he didn't seam to do much in their season last year anyway.

Their only major loss is Jack Walker.

And I don't know where you have been to think Reno and Nelson are their ONLY solid returning players...You are missing their entire first line and top 3 point scorers from the team last year (Hurley: 48 pts, Malmquist: 44 pts, Jordahl: 26 pts).

They will be completely fine without Jack Walker. Even though he's a very talented player, he is not the key to their success. Either was Nanne.
The main key to Edina's success is their coaching, for those people who haven't already picked that up...

I remember last year reading what people had to say about Edina and their coaching staff right after their tryouts. People were talking about what a big mistake it was to cut all those seniors and that Edina's Junior Gold A team would probably beat the varsity team...No chance. The coaches knew exactly what they were doing and look what happened, one of the best teams in the state. Hasn't Edina made it to state straight for the past 6 or 7 years? That shows consistent, quality coaching. That section has been nothing but extremely difficult each year. (I do not know what It will be like this coming year though)

I will bet that Edina will be as good, if not, better than the team they had last season. The Hurley/Malmquist/Jordahl line will be the best line in the state. No one will be able to compete with that line. And if I remember correctly, Edina was pretty young last year with no State Tournament experience (besides Louie Nanne). So for all the players that are returning, every one of them will be more experienced.

Every year there is a long thread about Giles and Edina coaching. A few years ago it was about how he can't win the big one. Last year is was about how he cuts the wrong players. Time to duck and cover.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and say Edina will be very good.

This off season for the Edina Hornets looked pretty good !! The boys made some major jumps !! Should be a fun year for them and a great team to watch !! State tournament ? time will tell ! In the mix I'm sure they can hang with most anybody.... GO GOPHERS !!! Looking at some stats online and this summers accoplishments is my only resource... Hornets are the favorite to win the section and one of the top 5 teams coming into the season to win state.
Question marks I would have about this team would be,
1) Does Hurley return to EHS after been called up to the ND team?
2) Will they get solid goaltending?
3) How will the D perform? If Nanne is out that will hurt.
4) What new/young players will step up and help?
As for Giles, I feel he has improved as a coach. A couple of years back he played his fab five all the time, since he has used all 3 even 4 lines, instead of just one line and (won state). He is a good coach and has made to right decission with who to cut and how to play his team.

I agree Giles has improved as a coach but I think alot people assume that because he played in the NHL he is a great coach. He really mishandled the team when a few years ago when he short shifted Lee Everson Budish line. It wore them out and ruined team chemisty. A great coach does not do that. Adding Langevin to coach the D was a good move as that was a weekness.

Hurley is only going to be at NTDP on a temporary basis.

1) Was called up for a couple games due to injuries
2) Returner played virtually every game last year
3) Nanne (if he plays D) MIGHT be the 3rd best D but last year they moved him to forward after D experiment didn't totally pan out
4) Strong youngsters at JV and Bantam team won state title - should be one or two bodies that can help
The cupboard is not as bare as hornethockeymom suggests

when to shorten the bench? maybe at the end of a tight or tied state playoff game. Hornets knocked out of the state playoffs 2 years running. Put the right D on the ice! Third time is not a charm - groundhog day

Is the goalie Benjamin ?? If so he stopped almost 90 % in the Elite.Not bad!!!

Section 2AA is not a cake walk...pun intended.

Can any one confirm that Nanne is hurt? I have not seen or heard again to confirm this story.
