Any insight into how Wayzata will do this season?

Their goalies, Dingman and Ahrens, are having an awesome pre-season with the elite league. Injury (I think) has limited Dingman to three games, but he's been a difference maker. Ahrens, subbing, got a lot of positive notice too, and he's just a sophomore. (With Chase Perry their other tendie, Team NW is clearly the Elite League leader in goaltending. Not coincidentally, top of the standings too.)

Whether these Wayzata guys will have a team in front of them or not remains to be seen, but good goaltending can win a lot of games.

Strong goaltending and they will lead the state in block shots and the coaches will be happy; they may score more than 3 goals in a handful of games. They are only 44 years away from their average of going to a state tournament every 50 years.

Obviously one of the top, and largest, youth associations in the State year after year. We've heard there have been fewer departures which should translate into a successful season.

Beyond the goalies were there other Trojans in the Elite League?

Forward Jalen Wahl is the only one that comes immediately to mind. Also on Team NW.

It doesn't look like Wayzata has much pull with the Elite League???

8 of the top 9 scorers on last year's team graduated. There isn't much in terms of experienced, top-end talent on this year's Trojan team.

Lost a lot of talent no doubt. But, this is a team that will get better over the course of the year and will beat EP tonka or Edina in conference play at least once and surprise people.

The Pat O'leary-Marc Sorensen coaching combo is the best in the state. The absolute best.

I agree. Good coaching and the olympic ice sheet make it difficult for visitors.

They impressed me tonight against Maple Grove, they looked fast, moved the puck well and killed off two 5 minute majors.

Wayzata boys looked great last night. They will win a bunch of games.

Oleary is a very good coach. Asst Coach Sorensen needs psychological help.

I was really impressed by Wayzata Saturday night against Edina even though they lost 3-0. They looked better than the night before and the larger ice sheet really showed of their quickness.. They have some very talented young forwards (I think the first 3 goals against Maple Grove were announced as 'scoring the first goal of his high school career....') and could be dangerous by the end of the year....

I had the opportunity to watch the game as well last night. Wayzata definitely played better on Saturday night. The tempo of the game was much quicker. A couple of observations - I thought the Wayzata goalie played well. Edina capitalized on some turnovers. Wayzata missed on some good chances in the 2nd period. Edina is a very talented team. I thought their size, speed, and strength was noticeable vs Wayzata. At times, I thought Wayzata got timid in the corners. Edina was far superior in the transition game and moved the puck up ice with crisp hard passes. Hurley and Nanne played solid games. I look forward to watching this young Wayzata team play together throughout the year. They have the potential to upset a few teams In the Lake and Sectionals. In another year, this team will definitely be stronger and a top team in the state. Go Trojans!!!
