The top-ranked defending state champs open their season against the Spuds in Moorhead Saturday night. Last year BSM beat the Spuds 5-3 in the SLP holiday tourney and then the Spuds pulled off the upset a month later in St. Louis Park, 6-2. Do the Spuds and their new head coach have any chance of doing it again or will the Red Knights roll?

Does anyone have the scoop on this game? Did Benilde play out of their minds or does Moorhead look pretty weak this year?

Benilde played like defending champs tonight. They are more talented and looked more polished than the Spuds and they outshot Moorhead something like 12-2 in the first period. The other 2 periods were about even in shots. I was surprised that the Spuds were able to get around the BSM defensmen a few times and had decent scoring chances, but just couldn't finish. BSM will still be tough to beat this year if they keep playing at the same level they did tonight.
