The Hastings girls High School Hockey team has been having a very good season. Nobody was talking about them at the start of the year They are undefeated and have beaten Roseville,Stillwater, and Cretin. Hastings is ranked 14th. Do you think they are underrated

Dear Dad,
I'm sorry you are so stressed. Have a beer, sit back, enjoy the final few years. They'll go by really fast.
You act as though Hastings is being disrespected by Let's Play Hockey Rankings and the University hasn't come calling yet.
No worries dad, things will work themselves out.

It’s too late. If you're going to be a dink to the guy, at least be original - or use good grammar. First, “They’ll go by really fast” is a tired old cliché. Second, “fast” is an adjective, which you are using to describe a verb; an adverb such as “quickly” would have made you sound less like a third grader.

Nothing personal Sr. Montoya, but you should lighten up. I agree with Cut Above that the subject of this thread is problematic, and the poster who began the thread is a parent or, more likely, a needy child who is phishing for attention. It's not a secret that a handful of Hastings players has filled the Twitter and Facebook universe with irrational boasts since the team beat Stillwater and Roseville in OT (probably for the first time in their history). I'm biased, but I'd prefer that the Twitter world remain the gutbucket of bombastic prattle and that this Forum be left the province of reasonable discussion for adults.
And now for the big question: how is my grammar?

I think the use of the word phishing is misguided.
I also think a Roseville parent judging a Hastings child is humorous.

Every hockey parent should be pushing the enjoyment aspect at any level of hockey, including college.
Work hard, educate yourself on the game and don't worry about things outside your control. One of those is the ratings game...
No matter how good your daughter is, or their team might be, there are few that will play past their senior year in HS. And "almost" none continue past college.
If the players can enjoy their time on the ice, and not worry about all the fringe areas of concern we "parents" bring into the fray, the experience will be much better for everyone..
Remeber, no matter how good you are today there will be someone coming tomorrow that's better..
Inigo, please no grammar retaliation on this one..

Twitter is as good or as bad as you make it, just like all media its about who you follow.
As far as this forum being a place for reasonable discussions for adults... since when has it been that? Look at the first response to this post for an example...
That being said, rankings are a pointless argument to have. How do you define under/over ranked?

It's refreshing to see SEC discussion focused on teams other than WBL and Stillwater (boys and girls).
It's great to see Hastings near the top of the SEC. Why is Hastings doing so well? And can they maintain this momentum thru the season?

Isn't it fair to say that both Roseville and Stillwater are down a little compared to past years? That might help explain, at least in part, why Hastings has been more competitive this year.

Back to the subject at hand, I think that next week's game vs. Moundsview should be a good test for Hastings . . . perhaps for both teams.

MV over Hastings 8-1 last night. MV outshot Hastings 40-7.
I did not see the game, was Hastings missing some top players or was it a bad game?
Clearly MV is the top team in the SEC. Should they be considered one of the top teams in the state?

MV rolls 2 lines and their top line may be in the top 3 in the state.
They are legit and a good team to see play.
MV v Hastings

Kiki Radke was not in the line-up for Hastings last night. That defintely hurt the Hastings squad but MV is legit...no doubt.

You never want to beg for validation. Shouting "Look at me!" attracts the fates, and they don't like to be disturbed.
Before Tempting Fate : 7-0-3
After Tempting Fate : 2-4-1
Anecdotal evidence shows a 100% correlation between discussing your recent succes and an eventual fall. 100% correlation because everyone remembers when it happens and nobody remembers when it doesn't.

luckyEPDad, does this fate thing also apply when somebody predicts their team will beat the No. 1 team in the State by 30 goals?

I haven't guessed a score correctly yet so 34-2 is as good as any other. And just think how my cred would shoot through the roof if that guess turned out to be right!

Come on guy's it was a mistake. Are you going to give me some slack on this one or what. I never thought the score was going to be that bad, I could not decide between 4-2, or 3-2.
