6-3 H'town

I am excited to see this game, this game brings alot of hype due to the northern exposure and some bragging rights that can come with it. I do not see how Rapids can win this playing like they have the past few games. I agree with the first post i see this being decided by 3 goals or more.. lets say 5 - 2 H-town.
Rapids needs to put up a big win or two to keep from becoming a 5 or 6 seed in 7AA. IMO.

Seeds aside, GR just needs to start hitting their stride right now. Hopefully they get Simonson back soon who was the player elbowed in the head from behind into the boards by an Eden Prairie player. They need him with Bischoff to have a set of D-men that can shut down any line in the state.

I agree, as bad as it was losing to St. Francis, Andover and Forest Lake don't have the number of quality wins Grand Rapids has. Anyone who thinks St. Francis is more than a #7 seed has lost their mind. Grand Rapids and Cloquet I think are playing for the 3 and 4 seeds when they play next week in GR. The winner of that game can still be in the hunt for #2, but the loser of that game I think will most likely be #4. If you look at most of the statewide rankings either human or computer, they confirm this for the most part.

Have you seen the Hermantown goalie play??? Even when Hermantown has outshot their opponents by nearly double...the goalie for Htown keeps the other team in the game. And on the flip side, Rapids has a great goalie.

Thunderhawks will win.

I think the final was 3-1 Hermantown.

They only play 2 periods in Hermantown?

I hear it was 4-3 hermantown. And out shot rapids by 15 shots

5-4 GR wins in OT.

Hermantown scored on first shot on net. Hermantown was up 3-1 after 2, shots were 19-18 Rapids after 2. Rapids goalie kicked out some pretty mealy rebounds. Rapids had 4 power plays 2 in 1st, 2 in 2nd before going on a 5min pp with about 1 min left in 2nd. Rapids had a goal waved off in the 1st, hit a couple pipes in the 2nd, only had 3 sog during the 5 min pp, last which they scored with about 30sec left in it to cut it to 3-2. There was a penalty on Bischoff and a Herm fwd, then Hermantown went on a pp - don't think they scored. Hermantown went up 4-2. Rapids cut it to 4-3, then tied it with 3:19 left in 3rd. Rapids got fed a gift in OT from what I was told (I didn't see it from my end of the rink). Shots read 31-28 Rapids 5-4.

Once again Rapids came out not playing to their full potential finding themselves down 2-0 after 1. The second was mostly Rapids, they came out flying and looked impressive. However after hitting 2 more pipes, (1 in the 1st) it felt like one of those games where no matter what you do you're not going to win. They finally converted on one of the PP with Peterson connecting. Not long after Hermantown scored to make it 3-1. Peterson scored again early in the 3rd on the PP to cut it to 3-2. Once again Hermantown came back and pushed it to 4-2. Rapids answered quickly, 4-3. Then tied it late in the 3rd. The OT goal didn't look like a gift from what I saw, it looked like a good hussle play. Rapids Dman Simonson beat Hermantown to the puck behind the Hermantown net and fed Magni all alone out front to bury his first career goal.

It was nice to see Rapids finally get some secondary scoring, can't rely on Peterson for everything! Sheppard didn't have his best game but the D collapsed a few times and let odd man rushes by that led to goals. Nice warm up game to get ready for East. Hopefully it will be a good one!

Terrible game if you are Hermantown, gotta close the deal on your home rink in that situation. Given Hermantown is 3-1-1 vs. top Class AA teams it proves the cutoff by the MSHSL is way to high at it's current 1275(?). Hermantown, Denfeld, and Marshall all have no business being in Class A.

Is Peterson getting any offers from Colleges/JRs ???? He seems like a talented kid.

He is projected to go in the 3rd or 4th round of the NHL draft, no idea on colleges or juniors.

And you have NO IDEA what you are talking about...unless you are saying hockey needs ONE class and turn the clock back prior to 1991. It's been over 20 years, no other sports in the state I can think of have a single class.

So now Denfeld has no business being in Class A? Central closed, so they gained another program, but neither school has had alot of success since the 80s. They beat Hermantown and D. East riding on a 4-year starter in the nets, so they should be AA huh?

How about Hibbing? Perenial hockey school, AA, but declining population moved them into A over the last 10 years. Why aren't they still in AA? Greenway? Played up for a few years, why didn't they stay?

Shall I continue? I think everyone with a head on their shoulders will be confused at your initial post as to what you want? Reduce the AA cutoff from 1275? To what? Who's left playing Single A hockey? Want successful programs to move to AA? Then mix in a private school into your argument.

Maybe you should pull up the old posts discussing this topic and post there.


As for the game, Hermantown spent 13 minutes shorthanded, Grand Rapids 0 minutes shorthanded and the shots were 22-19 GR and Hermantown still led 3-2 at that point thru 2 periods and the first 3+ min of the 3rd. Hermantown's problem was staying out of the penalty box. I absolutely agree with other post that GR seemed like nothing was going their way. They did struggle greatly in the first 4+ min of their 5min pp however just to gain the O-zone. Pretty much gives an idea of the flow of the game and GR had momentum as the game wore on. Most teams should...

Excuses excuses. Those teams should be Class AA based on results PERIOD. Rapids was w/o two of their top forwards and a d-man last night and if you don't like penalties then don't play dirty. Rapids won that game because they were the better team last night.
