96 Machine, Bernie's pride, where are they now, how are they doing, are they living up to the predicted successes.

I know they lost to the 96 Miracle Gold team last summer in a tournament championship game.

The 96 team that played in a tourney last summer for Made, was not the original team that played together for several summers.

Of the 96 Machine kids, they made up almost half of the Select 16 team that went to NY last summer...so that says a great deal about the success of his program. Here's a few.

Ryan Norman-SSM varsity as Soph. (rare achievement) One of the top 96's in the country and best in the state. Better than Gersich.

Dylan Malmquist-Top line at Edina as frosh & Soph. When does that ever happen there? Top scorer at Select 15's in summer of 2011 from Mn.

Jack Walker- QB'ed PP at Edina as a Frosh D last year (when have you ever seen that at Edina?) Now playing for Victoria Royals in WHL. Played on Select 15 & 16 team. Even being small, he must be pretty skilled to get attention from USA hockey, Canadian juniors, etc.

Jake Wahlin- Top 10 Soph in HS hockey. Almost 3ppg this year.

Cullen Munson- Top 6 forward at Edina. Made Select 16's to NY.

Jack Dougherty- Best D on best team in the state right now (STA) Jr. Shut down BSM to one goal last night!

Tyler Nanne & Mikey Fiddler on Edina varsity. Possible D1 canidates and Nanne was on Select 15's.

Jack Glover & Ryan Collins- At Ann Arbor as Jrs. Committed to Gophers

All I can think of at the top of my head. Having almost half of the 96 team as the select 16 team representing MN, along with 7-10 possible D1 or draft picks is something to be proud of don't ya think?

My bet is those kids were the top kids going to the machine. (The reason Bernie picked them.) So naturally they will be some of the top players somewhere down the road to. I would bet most of those kids had some great association coaches and private lessons along the way that helped in their development.

I'm sure Bernie does a good job with them but he is not the only reason to their success. As a matter of fact the #1 thing to success is the kids determination and drive!!! and you don't teach that.

Who played on the 96' Machine team for the tournament? Pretty sure I saw Norman on the MG team...

These kids were and are great, because they are talented. Associations, private lessons, camps etc. all made them better. They all do have talent and determination. But the reason they are able to make the impact that they have at HS, Tier 1, Jrs. is because of the hand skills they learned from him. They probably were gonna have good hands...he just made them great. They were going to be fast...he just made them faster. He helped instill the work ethic that helped them be great. Talented kids need talented teachers.

They came to him as little studs, many with Hockey names.

He provided a ton of ice......

Parts of 96 Machine + Parts of 96 Icemen = 96 Velocity. They didn't suck. The couple years they were together showed how talented individuals can play with anyone. And more importantly, FOR anyone.

Bernie does a lot of things well... teaching kids to chop corners off the pucks is one of them. I would beg to differ on their hand skills. I have seen many scouts say "must be a made kid as they smile and shake their head at the over chopping of the ice on each side of the puck.

Just sayin....

Lots of talented kids off that Machine team...have to agree with that.

All good players but not an entirely accurate accounting for the 96 Machine Team. Here's a little more recollection:

Missing from the list... Cass (Stillwater, but recently left?); Jaremko (Elk River); Muck (Eagan); Lindgren (Eagan); any others?

Malmquist was not Machine early on but graduated from Teal (Deuce) to the Orange along the way, and for good reason

Don't think Munson was never officially Orange but was spotted from time to time with Orange opportunities....Weier (STA), Lijewski (Omaha U16), Illgen (HM) also come to mind here

Collins was never a part of MN Made (Orange or Teal) from what I can recall

Kudo's to the guy that identified this group at such an early age and got them together....outstanding group of players who we will enjoy for years to come, many during the high school state tournament, some for the Gophers and I'm fairly certain 3 or 4 will have kids in the metro wanting their jersey for christmas in 10 years.

So Aldo-your saying Bernie "made" Norman ?? His dad/Al Mcginnis[St.louis Jr Blues] had nothing to do w/it. Nanne/Fidler/Wahlin/and the rest had many great coaches and if Big B didn't coach then maybe Todd[Norman] Marty [Nanne] or mike [Fidler] would have. They all know a thing or two about hockey.

So: talented kids picked or came out, lots of ice time. That's a good start.

Just look at the U17 National team ! who from Minnesota made it and played for Bernie ?

According to OldGoalie85, the '96 dads " know a thing or two about hockey" and they all ended up at Bernie's...case closed

Or Bernie had a rink.

Pretty sure other rinks and other coaching options were available for the 96's. Simply put, their accomplishments are listed in prior posts and I do not see any other group of MN 96's that can top theirs. This group of dads must have recognized the benefits of being coached by Bernie were not solely due to the fact he had his own rink. The 88's did not even have a rink.

Now we are back to the 88's ????

88's??? I know I am old, but I graduated high school before that.....
