ER Hockey

It looks like Elk River is missing Tony Sarsland. I have seen a couple of their games this season and it doesn't look like the ER of old. No hitting, No emotion the team is struggling to score with first and second liners that would play just about anywhere. Maybe the old saying is true. "Just because you played the game doesn't mean you can coach it" [/b]

Never heard that old saying before. Who said it?

I think it was Socrates

Give him time, Its his first season. You know there has to be a learning curve. He's a good guy, he knows hockey, Maybe its the players, pretty hard to blame only the coach when your not getting the results you would like to have. Good Players at the high school level can score goals regardless of the coach. it will take a few years to see how his style is adapted within the community. You have 2 VERY different philsophies and personalities between Sarstad and Roberts. ER is doing ok..

Well said, Gordy can be aloof but has worked hard and integrated himself in the community and with the youth hockey program. Elk River is playing a different style and could battle harder at times but people probably expected to much right away because of his background. With those expectations they are right where should be, hard to make everyone happy, kids will most often not live up to the lofty views of their parents. Enjoy the high school experience.

Plato only has an elementry school. Great town team baseball, but has never had a hockey team!

He was recruited to Athens Academy in Greece, but they played Class A

So now he can transfer to STA?

Family not moving so he has to sit out a year. Wanted to transfer to Elk River but was hoping Paul Schmyr and Frantesek Musil would be coaching.

That Socrates has been nothing but trouble for the community ever since he showed up and started corrupting everyone with his crazy ideas. Better to just report him to the MSHSL and let them apply the proper recruiting violation/dosage of hemlock juice. Then we'll be rid of him.

WOW
I lived In Elk River most of my life. As much as Sars was abrasive to people around him he managed to never allow one of his teams get beat up like they did last night against BSM. C'mon coach Roberts gotta figure out how to motivate these kids. This group has always been successful. Last night they looked really rough. Getting worse instead of better.

thank god i didn't go to this one, that was ugly. can't score and can't keep puck out of the net, not a good combination. i figured that they would beable to score a little more this year but thats not the case.

Maybe some kids need to look in the mirror and ask if they are playing for themselves or the team? Roberts is not the problem, everybody, including parents were on board and excited when Gordie got hired, now it's obvious they are not playing with urgency they did under Sars, but the kids need to play better and get better. What scout or JR scout would look at any of these kids and want them the way they are playing.

Curious to know where did Roberts coach before and did he have some success?

Elk River how does it feel getting your but kicked? Maybe oughta think
twice about humiliating your opponents. You got what was coming to you!
Too bad Benilde backed off a bit, otherwise it would have been worse.

Hey Blueliner5. You play like crap this happens. I'm glad it made you feel better. No whining from ER though. BSM whooped their butts. They'll use this as motivation hopefully unlike you holding a grudge and crying. Its hockey, there is nothing more demoralizing than when your opponent quits playing because you suck.

Blueliner, sounds like you were on the receiving end of a ER asswooping and it still stings years later.
The ER kids are on the team now but certainly must not have anything to do with that asswooping that still stings you so many years later.
Relax its just another game we are so fortunate to enjoy watching and playing. \:D/

   I knew this would get under someones skin!! Basically, what I was getting across is Elk River has alot of talent and very rarely has this happen to them. Too many times I have noticed them sticking it into there opponents face when they are ramping up the score. Maybe they should look in the mirror after last nights game and see how they feel. It's the same feeling opponents feel after being whooped upon by ER. BTW I never was on the receiving end of an asswhooping by Elk River.

They got beat 9-1......i dont think they need to look into a mirror and think about all of the times they beat someone 9-1....happens quite often. not like BSM "stuck it in their face". and you cant really claim to be getting under peoples skin when you simply make stupid remarks. its more of people correcting you or asking for a point to your post than you "getting under their skin".
