Not a very important game, but always an interesting one. No matter how good Virginia is or how bad Greenway is, Greenway somehow manges to be competitive. Last year Greenway's goalie made 69 saves and Greenway won. Will Virginia take care of business or will the Greenway jinx continue?

I will go with Virginia, but every game played in Coleraine is fun. If you don't have fun at that rink, your are not a hockey guy.

I thought this game was postponed. Any truth to this?

^^ Thats what I heard. Districts seem to be getting softer about cancelling school. When I was in high school 7 years ago if they cancelled from windchill it had to be at least -45 below. Now its -30 and they are cancelling a day ahead.

What is wrong with these administrators? Rapids plays outdoors in near white-out conditions and Greenway postpones a game because of cold weather? No wonder a fourth of Greenway's students open enroll at Rapids.

Actually, there were a handful of games postponed in the region tuesday evening, as wind chills exceeded -40 throughout much of the day. I was outside in the conditions myself, working that day. Not fun, but gotta do what you gotta do. Would not want my kids riding a bus home late at night in those conditions when the possibility of a breakdown increases.
And I'm pretty sure that is pretty low on the list of why Greenway students enroll @ Rapids.

While numerous other districts have done so, Rapids hasn't canceled or started late this week, much to the dismay of many on social websites. FB chatter today claims the school policy now requires wind chills of -50 or more to cancel, but haven't verified that myself on the school site.

Virginia, Eveleth-Gilbert, Hibbing, Mesabi East, and Chisholm were all also open and on time all week. The only Range schools that were not open were Mountain Iron-Buhl, Nashwauk-Keewatin, and Greenway. I don't see why since these schools sit smack dab in the middle of the rest of the open schools and, in all cases, are literally less than 10 minutes drive from an open school.

That really had no bearing on the decision to cancel this game as it was cancelled by the HOME team (Greenway) because they did not have school during the day (district policy). Had the school been open during the day, the game probably would have been played. Virginia ended up scrambling up its youth hockey schedule to get ice time at home for the varsity to practice, so I'm sure they would have much preferred hopping on a bus to Coleraine if at all possible.
Anyway, more toward the topic at hand, the make up game is scheduled for Monday Feb. 4th at 7:30 in Coleraine.
