Edina At Wayzata (Saturday 1/26/13)

The Trojans are coming off a loss to the skippers while edina just bounced back from there loss by beating hopkins.
Edina won the 1st meeting very early in the season 3-0 but edina has been struggling of late while Wayzata has been a top 2 or 3 team all year. Keep in mind Benjamin is back in net for edina and most of there players are back from injury and the move to put Jordahl back on the 1st line with Hurley and malmquist makes that one of the most dangerous lines in the state.
So who do we think wins this one at Wayzata?

After watching Tonka/Wayzata I'm a little iffy on Wayzata's chances. Relying on defense and a Soph for scoring is asking alot against this much talent. No doubt Wayzata has a coaching advantage but is it enough?
5-2 Edina. Please prove me wrong Wayzata!

I think Edina will over power the Trojans, win 4-2.

Edina wins 5-4. Not sold on Edina's defense. Only giving up 20 shots but not clearing players out in front and collapsing in front of there own net caused Benjamin to have a tough night. Offensively the Hornets were very strong and with better defensive play i think they win this 5-2.

Great game to watch....Both teams came to play.
Been noticing a pattern.
Even though Edina regularly has been winning the SOG derby in their games (2:1 tonight), they either have lost the big games or have scraped by by one goal.
Anybody have some insight on this?

I think its multiple things. some nights they just cant score maybe some shots from far out, tonight i think it was defense and i think defense is the main reason. there out shooting teams by a lot but giving up to many goals for how many shots they give up. 20 shots tonight by wayzata and 4 goals is not good enough. While 5 goals and 38 shots is not bad especially against a tight defensive team like wayzata with dingmen. so im gonna put the blame on the defense

Also factor in the goal Edina had waved off. Hockeyhub commentator and others without a dog in the fight all thought it was a good goal. that makes it a two-goal victory.
Anyway, now that Wayzata has gotten some well earned "they deserve to be ranked among the very best" props, i wonder why there would be head-scratching about why Edina "only" won by one goal on Wayzata's unconventionally sized sheet of ice. It's a solid victory for Edina that can be a strong point come seeding for the post-season.

2nd game I have seen in person this year, Great game with nice end to end action, Wayzata skaters blocked at least 6 hard shot chances or Edina could have run this one up. Did anyone else at this game notice the P.A. anouncer try to make a name for himself, absolutely screaming Wayzata players names after goals which is fine if the volume was not set at 10+ with incredible speaker distortion, people around us were holding their ears when a goal was scored for the home team, I can usually just sluff off that kind of noise but I was wincing just a bit throughout the game, an overt distraction that took away from what we were trying to watch and enjoy.

He has been the PA guy for the last three years and it is so embarrassing. Wayzata needs to realize this makes their home games look like a circus.

Wayzata has been exposed during the Mtka and Edina games this week.
Not much offense(except for Zimmer and Freytag) and their defense
is average at best. If you put a strong forecheck on their defense, they will turn the puck over. There was a lot of preseason hype about a couple of their defensive captains and they haven't done anything this year.
If their goalie doesn't play well, the team doesn't have a chance against most top 10 teams. If they want to beat Mtka and BSM in sections to advance to state, their goalie will have to stand on his head.

Best part of Wayzata's team is their defense and goaltending. O'Leary has done a great job molding the defense into solid hockey players.
I wasn't at the Wayzata game last night as we were out of town, but it appears Dingman wasn't on his game last night. Wayzata goes to state if Dingman plays well in Sections.

I was at the game and Digmann was not sharp. It was not his best game. He was fighting the puck at times. The 1st goal of the game set the tone by Edina. A low shot on the ice from far out went in. Any other night and it was a typical save. There was a another goal later in the game on the ice from the point which went in as well.
Machut got pummeled in the boards and had to leave the game. He nearly collapsed skating to the bench. From a far, when he sat on the bench, he fell backwards off the bench. I would suspect he got a concussion. He didn't play again and didn't return to the bench in period 3.
I hope for the best and a quick return to action.
As Digmann and Freytag play well, so do the rest of the team.
Zimmer was outstanding last night and by far his best game as a Trojans.
Go Trojans.

Guy is totally obnoxious...He reminds me of the guys who do monster truck rally commercials....
SUNDAY!SUNDAY!SUNDAAAAAAY!
The good news is that this was the first time in quite awhile I didn't hear "Welcome to the Jungle" played at any time during the game.
