Why? So that they can get beat even more frequently and by greater margins?

They are a pretty large school already that is growing. They would probably be forced to move up in a couple of years anyways.

According to MSHSL Rogers has an enrollment of 1,161. Truehockeyfan is on target with his statement.

Is it plausable that everyone opts up to AA and thus eliminates the A level altogether? One size fits all

Kennedy and Rochester Century are the smallest AA schools with enrollments of 1275, neither are growing. Rogers is and probably will be close to the cutoff this spring when sections are realigned anyway. East ridge, Lakeville South, and some others opted up knowing their enrollment a were going to put them in AA soon enough.

East Ridge and Lakeville South are already playing at the AA level. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see what will happen with section realignment.

I won't be surprised if they put Rogers in 7AA, that would be the typical stupid ass MSHSL way. In realignment they should put Elk River, Rogers, and Andover in either section 3, 4, or 5.

 Roseau has an enrollment of 374
Grand Rapids ops up with 947
even Bemidji has 1145 #-o

Those schools are A schools that opt up, not AA schools by enrollment.

The MSHSL sets AA at the top 64 programs by enrollment, any school that opts up adds to the 64, no one goes down because Roseau opts up.

Why? So 7AA can have 4 teams? Or do you want all of outstate Minnesota in 1 section? Because that's pretty much what would happen

Maybe it's 7AA's turn to have just 8 teams, instead of 16. Maybe 3AA can deal with 5-6 top 20 teams rather than Eagan having no competition every year.

Would you please name the 16 teams in 7AA, because I can't.

1) When, exactly, did 7AA have 5-6 top 20 teams?

2) And when, in your opinion, did Eagan start "having no competition" in 3AA? The year before last, when they beat AV by a goal in the Section final? Year before that, when they lost to AV in the section final? Yeah, it's no competition in 3AA "every year."

3) Up above, you said that ER, Rogers and Andover should be switched over to Sections 3, 4 or 5. How do you propose to keep two sections Up North if you want to purge the exurban schools from 7AA (and, presumably 8AA)? Four team sections?

1. Umm....2006?

2. Not only that, but Eagan is probably going to have a new friend in 3AA next season that will make life a bit tougher.

3. I think DJ is envisioning a 7AA in which Hermantown and Marshall opt up, the west side of Duluth magically reverses 30 years of plummeting population and Denfeld becomes AA, and maybe Hibbing decides to make the leap back up. Yeah, I'd like to see all those things happen, too. And I want a pony. The pony is looking more likely at this point. The exurbs are in 7AA to stay, and we have to live with it. (Plus it's kinda fun to watch them all whine about having to drive up to Duluth for sections.)

It's hard to say where Rogers will be, since the MSHSL's handy map sticks them right in the no-man's land between sections 5,6,7, and 8. http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/googlemap_ne ... &dclass=AA We'll probably have to wait for the formal realignment to figure out where everyone ends up.

It was an exaggeration because the MSHLS wants to put as many norther suburban powers in 7AA as they can. Why not let Elk River and Andover play their conference rivals in 5AA Sections and give 7AA some cannon fodder like Chisago Lakes and Robbinsdale Cooper? The funny thing is even with those southern schools (and their whining about playing in a scenic town like Duluth and the palace that is Amsoil Arena), when was the last time Elk River won it? Back in 01?

When the schools were new, they opted up as the schools were growing. Which is the point.

Because Chisago is Class A, and Cooper makes zero geographic sense. St. Francis, Cambridge, and STMA aren't exactly northern suburban powers, and with all due respect to Forest Lake and Andover, they really aren't there yet, either. Elky is the only one of them that really qualifies as a power in any sense of the term, and they haven't been to state since they were put back in this section in 05-06. They won it in 99.

Frankly, looking at the map I posted earlier, we are lucky they haven't tried throwing Blaine or Centennial in 7AA yet.

I would think Rogers goes to 5AA and 7AA wont change unless someone stops opting up. What is interesting is, that would put 10 teams in 5AA and only 8 in 4AA, possibly sliding Centennial back to 4AA.

It seems the picture would be slightly different if the map divisions were made evenly after opt ups and not before.

They are made after all teams are placed in a class, including those that opt up or petition down, there are rules concerning the difference in the amount of teams sections can have, it's 2 I believe.

Which is why where the enrollment cut off will be is interesting, Rochester Century is the smallest AA school, if they are below the threshold and don't opt up someone will have to replace them in 1AA. Hastings would be the most likely school but Rosemount, AV, Eastview, Eagan, and STA are all possibilities as well.
