Yeah that's what I said, looks like the comprehension is lacking in the north as well.BarTender3035 wrote:Keep spreading out the cities teams north, good idea. Lets change the tournament name to The Cities Tournament too while we are at it. Deal with it.

Just saying you can't call them competitive and not have them competitive, and if 8 teams from the north deserve to be there, then I would like them all to have a fair chance to be there not just one of them.
Sending bad teams because of where you live? Everyone who read this post is now dumber for have read it.BarTender3035 wrote:Keep spreading out the cities teams north, good idea. Lets change the tournament name to The Cities Tournament too while we are at it. Deal with it.
To be honest, if they are going to keep the 2 class system (A & AA) then I think they should go back to having a tier 1 and tier 2 type of tournament. No matter what your enrollment, top 8 teams go tier 1 next go tier 2.D6 Girls Fan wrote:If Forest Lake wins 7AA, one of the Lakeville teams wins 1AA, and North Wright County wins 8AA (all of which could rather easily happen), then you have eight teams from the metro in the tournament.
If that's going to be the case, shouldn't they be the BEST 8 teams?
If you must have a team from up north in the tournament just because it's the way things have always worked, then combine 7AA and 8AA and cut the section off at the metro. But lots of things change over time, and the time has come for Minnesota Hockey to change this. Play down to the best 8 teams and put them in state no matter where they come from.
Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? You are saying the metro is underrepresented? Like I said before, if your private school or 2500 student public school or coop wants to take advantage of our geography situation; opt into one of our outstate sections. Just show up in Moorhead, Roseau, or Cloquet on a weeknight for games. I should point out that for the most part outstate teams are community based and don't have all the metro disadvantages you suffer from.sinbin wrote:You mean, do something that makes sense and is equitable, rather than allowing teams to advance to state simply based on being average and on the luck of their geography? What a novel concept.
Reading between the lines...what do you mean for the most part?D16Dad wrote:Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? You are saying the metro is underrepresented? There are or have been coops (necessary) and privates in the outstate sections... For the most part community based. No reading between the lines necessary.Pens4 wrote:Reading between the lines...what do you mean for the most part?D16Dad wrote:Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? First it was 2750 kids that was too big, now its 2500 kids thats too big. Only 7 schools have over 2500 kids...of which 4 of them have never made it to state in girls hockey. So what exactly is your parameters for fair? Some schools are grades 9-12 so that puts them over 2500 kids or they too would be under 2500 kids. So if I understand your parameters you would like: no big schools, no private schools and no co-ops....sounds good! Translation...eliminate 80% of the good teams so my team has a chance.D16Dad wrote:Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? You are saying the metro is underrepresented? How about we have a state tournament from Princeton MN north about 2/3s the state. I will do the Brackets for AA
Roseau vs Duluth
GRG vs Moorhead
Hibbing vs St Cloud
Bemidji vs Alexandria
Now lets do one fair for the cities
BSM vs Edina
Lakeville N vs EP
Tonka vs Mounds View
Hill Murray vs Hopkins
Lets vote.....which one would you attend? Now we can't play at the Excel either? Are they the same weekend? That is a tuff call but I would have to attend the one my daughters team is playing in. Looks like you are posing the classic question of representative republic vs pure democracy. As long as you have your 51% of the vote...
I welcome anyone that thinks it is an advantage to live in the sticks to join us. Opt into an outstate section and then play all of the section opponents at least once in the regular season. Seems like a fair trade. The fairness to me has nothing to do with getting there. But if you want to get in through outstate section _AA; play those teams during the regular season. I do not believe it to be fair to become a member of section _AA just for the playoffs.I wrote:["...if your private school or (lets say any size) public school or coop wants to take advantage of our geography situation; opt into one of our outstate sections. Well I can tell you that many Buffalo fans would rather be a part of 8AA (or 7AA) instead of 6AA. I don't think "opting" for a different section is how it works.....the MSHSL does all the assigning.D16Dad wrote: I will try again -I welcome anyone that thinks it is an advantage to live in the sticks to join us. Most of above was responding to all of the advantages or luck of our geography. Travelling 135 miles one way for a game on a school night is quite common!

Yep, made the trip to Monticello, Buffalo, Richmond, Princeton, Painsville, etc. once or twice...Silent But Deadly wrote:Well I can tell you that many Buffalo fans would rather be a part of 8AA (or 7AA) instead of 6AA. BTW...our HS boys are in 8AA.
