Doesn't matter if this is 1AA, still a monstrous game for these 2 schools!! The kids will play their butts off for sure!!

That is what it is all about! Should be a great game and a great honor to the winner.....don't let the elitist blowhards suck the fun out of it!!

1AA

The winner of this game gets the prime time slot against the #1 seed. Another reason to not like this section...

What happened when 1AA played the #1 seed last year?

Both Lakeville teams played Duluth East to 2 goal games this year. And playing in the SSC day in and day out prepares a team for the state tournament.

They need to toughen up 8AA, it's getting pretty old having basically a bye in the game against Moorhead :D

1AA, 3-0 against the North the last 2 years
The South has risen again!!!!

0-8 against Eagan over that time period...oh, were you thinking further north than the river? My bad.

You've already got a thread going to defend the honor of Lakeville and the Seven Dwarfs. If you want to avoid seeing this one locked for duplication, why not focus on which Lakeville team will win the Section title?

yep, 0-8, 4-2 at the x though, how does that compare? Pipe down till you win something.

Oh, you got me there...3AA (i.e. Eagan) is "only" 3-3 the past two years, and just has a third place, versus 1AA (i.e. Justin Kloos and Charlie Lindgren) "winning" a third place + consolation championship.

Is the fact that Charlie's younger brother open-enrolled at Eagan High School as a ninth grader really relevant to this discussion?

Just keep up the mantra, boys...4-2 at state last two years, 4-2 at state last two years....I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it people like me! \:D/

Wow, a little touchy don't ya think?

Eagan has done a great job the last few years but they've for the most part added players at the high school level. You mentioned Kloos and Lindgren as if they alone were the reason they had any success. Do you suppose that Skjei, Aerntz, Osterberg, Lewis, Reid, Schroeder, Kroska, and McNeely might have helped push the Lakevilles to maybe one victory. Congrats on the ability to retain players and even add some but the field aint exactly level. I for one would love to see Eagan step up at stae and bring home the grand prize but rubbing our poor little Lakeville noses in it gets a little old.

As for the game I'll go with North but its really kind of a toss up, and by the the way they were both 0-2 against Eagan. Seems thats an important stat.

I know this is 1AA, but anyone else on the younger brother's Eagan team that played Bantams in another city last year?

Retaining is good; recruiting is awesome!

Do magnets recruit iron? :-k

There's a separate thread if you really want to whine about 9th graders that either open-enroll or move to a different city. Neither violates the MSHSL transfer rules.

Do you believe that Lakeville North would have won either of those two consolation games back in 2011 without Lindgren in net? I don't. Of course, he wasn't the only reason why LN got to state that year, but you don't seem to think that regular season performance matters a lick. It's all about State Tourney performance in the last two years. 4-2, 4-2, 4-2.....doggone it, that's good enough!

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on why "the field aint exactly level" between Eagan and Lakeville North. School size? Geography? Better fight song?

I won't bother it's the been beaten to death already. At any rate since you tasked us to stay on topic I noticed you never bothered to give us your pick. By the way, Eagan is 4-0 against Lakeville this year, that's an important stat!

Maybe I'm waiting for nahc to add "Who cares?" to the polling options.

I see that Lauderdale has played first two section games, after sitting out a number of weeks with what some had been calling a season-ending injury. If he's back up to speed, I'll pick South. But if he's not...guess I'd still be rooting for the Cougars. :)

Seen both of these teams.. both wildly inconsistant but have shown flashes of being able to play (North over EP, South over Cenntenial). South has actually surprised me this year with making it this far after losing Harvey, Witela, Brevig and, of course, Mr. Hockey. These 2 teams split the regular season match-ups, both blowing the other out.. Hard to call this one but should be a fun one to watch!

Not sure how Eagan got pulled into this.. but as far as 1AA is concerned, this is obviously a really down year and the winner will probably struggle to keep games close at state. But I do think if either Lakevilles bring their best game they can hang with anyone at state. Plus its fun to have an underdog.

Anyone know the worst record for a team that made state? Who ever wins this section has to be pushing it

The worst AA records I can find are 2010 Lakeville North (11-15-2) and 1996 White Bear Lake (10-14-1). So if North were to win, it would be the worst AA winning percentage on record. South would be slightly above those two.

The absolute worst records all appear in the Tier II tournament, but that isn't a very good comparison. I don't see any Class A teams that were worse, though there are several that are close.

Well for that reason alone I want North to win just to make history haha

Thanks Karl!

Congratulations to North! Both teams played hard until the final buzzer. As I sat and watched the game, I notice after every period, the North team rushing their goalie and congratulating him on a good period, opposite on the Southside. The South team just skated off into the locker room. Just an observation.

The fact that far too many people ignore is; If you remove the top one or two players from a HS hockey team in Minnesota, at least eight out of ten of those teams would be vastly different teams with very different records.

The way it is and the way it's always been.

North should of been congratulating their goalie because he was the difference in the game. South carried most the play and had the better chances but North's goalie came up with big saves and South's didn't. North's goalie will have to put up an even more heroic effort to keep the game close next week because if Lakeville South can pepper 36 shots on him, you can bet he will see a lot more next week..

Congrats to the Panthers, really hope they can put up a fight at state!
