WHITE BEAR ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD/HEAD COACH TIM SAGER

It has been reported in a story on hockeyhub.com and also in the St. Paul Pioneer Press that White Bear Lake sophomore Jake Wahlin has the single season scoring record for the Bears with 67 points.
In reality, this is not true.
The actual record is 71 points set by Jake Hansen (28 goals, and a school record 43 assists) during the 2006-07 season when Hansen was a junior.
Now it appears that White Bear Lake head coach Tim Sager is disregarding that record and it's probably because Hansen left White Bear Lake after his junior year to play for Sioux Falls in the USHL.
For Sager to disregard Hansen's record just because a darn good player leaves the team after the season so that he can step right in at the division1 level (University of Minnesota) is absolutely wrong to do on Sager's part.
If Sager is disregarding Hansen's record, will he do the same thing whenver (or if) Jake Wahlin leaves for junior hockey early? This will certainly be interesting to see if Sager doesn't include Wahlin's points if in fact Wahlin ever does leave the program early for a better league.

It seems to me this is simply an oversight and not an attempt by Sager to sabotage the record books because of a player leaving early. Does Sager also run the records division of the WBL school district? He can say anything he wants but it doesn't make it true. A record is a record, unless its not recorded

I remember that year for Hansen, it was so sick to watch him out on the ice (even being a Roseville Raider supporter).

Brian Bonin had roughly 168 points in his three years for the Bears. His highest single season was 58 points as a senior in the '91-92 season (23 goals and 35 assists).
Mac Jansen scored 38 goals in the 2010-11 season. The same year, Brandon Wahlin had 34 goals & 31 assists for 65 points. Brandon Wahlin had 143 career points at White Bear.

I am willing to bet Shawn Roed would have broken all these records had he played his entire HS career at WBL. Pretty sure he left after his freshman year, maybe even his soph?

The perception is that exagerated media statements of "scoring records" and the "best player I've ever coached" are a simple marketing pitch by made by a simple man to retain a player he is afraid of loosing.
It demonstrates the character of the adult leadership of the team.

Left after his sophomore season for Ann Arbor and played his senior year for the TwinCities Vulcans.

Thanks. He was a very special player. Too bad things didn't work out for him at the U. One of the best youth players I have ever seen. Incredible talent.

The all-time scoring leader for White Bear Mariner was Dan Gorowsky with 84 goals and 48 assists for 132 points. Gorowsky is the father of Centennials' Hans & Ryner Gorowsky.

Without trying to sound too much like I am defending Sager. I'm not willing to say he had a big hand in "hiding" Hansen's point record. It may have been an oversight. I will give him the benefit of the doubt unless someone gives me proof. I don't think he is a good coach, but in conversations with him, he at the very least seems like a decent person, especially considering he is a high school coach that has had (at least) a few death threats over HS hockey.
and to be honest, as a white bear alum, I find it almost more sad to come and raise a big fight over it.
Wahlin is a special player, bottom line. Let's just enjoy watching him as long as he stays.
