Wondering if Roseau has a group coming up that will get out of 8AA? Missed them down here the last couple of years.

Would love to see the Rams, Jags and Trojans at the X in 2014. However, I think we'll only see one of those three at most.

I am hesitant to even put STA in the top 10 of AA, considering they are losing 12 to 13 seniors this year.

I will update my list as players are to not return to their teams, already took Gabrielle-Eagan and Baer-Benilde out. Last year the top teams for this list were Edina, Eden Prairie, Benilde, Roseau, and Minnetonka.
Interesting that only Edina made it to the state tourney of last years top five. Seems to show how important incoming bantams/JV players are.

Opted up a year late perhaps? With no truly dominant AA team this past season, it would sure seem so.

Not at all, Rapids a little better. Just going by this list it looks like Elk River may be the team to beat in 7AA.

Or it could also show the impact of certain move-ins, or show how heavily some coaches lean on their seniors/top lines...it's fair to expect that all of these percentages would have been higher if underclassmen on 3rd and 4th lines had just as much playing time (both 5v5 and especially PP) as the seniors/move-outs ahead of them.

What we really need for this analysis are moneyball-type sabermetrics ...instead of "runs above replacement" (RAR) it would be "goals above replacement." Or maybe goals per minutes played.

I wouldn't read too much into who made it to the state tournament from the list. The key thing is that all of the teams listed in the top for 2012-13 were some of the best teams all year long. Plus, only one team could have made it between BSM, EP and Tonka as they are all in the same sectional.

I would expect top teams on this list to be some of the best all year long in 2014 as long as something major doesn't happen to those teams (players leaving early, injuries, etc). Who makes it to state is always a wildcard because no one knows how these kids will handle the playoff pressure, along with the fact that a hot goalie can give a team a playoff "W" at any time.

These all play a factor. I know last year I just did percentages did not look at which players or how many points they have. I think looking at this a team such as Blaine or Burnsville right now where not only they return big scorers with over 30 and 40 pts but more players in the 10 pt range are the teams to watch vs. say either Lakeville North who has no big scorers or Eden Prairie who has big scorers but not many in 10 pt range. Just thinking about teams from last year Benide, Tonka and Roseau all had big time scorers but lacked returning depth while Edina had top scorers and some depth guys returning. Things may get interesting once players are confirmed to leave.

Make no mistake, STdoubleAA will be good. And while talented, not over the top with depth/senior strength as they have been in recent years. Eastview will challenge STA and has a good shot at returning to state via 3AA. After that, Cretin and Eagan will be nipping at their heels.

Really need to see where all of the free agents show up for summer camp before we can seriously consider rankings. Especially in 3AA, where rumor has the cadets flying kites in bad weather, hoping to attract a bolt of blue-chip lightning.

STA should be solid but not as good as this year. CDH should be average like they always are, They are living off one good team 10 years ago

As does Let's Play Hockey, and they probably did a better job than I did this past year.

Could you find it in your heart to do class A too?
I can probably put together a Class A list sometime in the next couple weeks for top 10-20 teams.

Umm...I do.

As does Let's Play Hockey, and they probably did a better job than I did this past year.
Who determines the rankings that come out in the newpapers?
It's an anonymous panel of coaches and members of the media. Let's Play Hockey puts it together, and the AP and MNHockeyHub use it as well.
