New this summer for 99's and 00's.

How will they work this (checking) with the 00's that will be going back to Peewees next winter?

Thanks Bo I had some questions about this as well. Is HP the same as Selects and does anyone know the cost or who coaches and which venue?

Shouldn't it be called 13/14's since the 98's are the 15's?

The HP 14/15 information page is here:

http://www.minnesotahockey.org/page/sho ... ance-14-15

It has contact info for Pat Westrum, the director.

Strange that the younger 00's will be able to check for this and then won't be able to when they return to peewees.

Does anyone know how the players will be picked to attend the tryouts?

Actually I think it's strange that MN is the only place in North America where you will have 00's not checking next winter while everywhere else in all of North America ALL of the 2000's will be checking this spring, summer and next winter etc.....

Probably not too safe to throw some Bantam age 99's in with a bunch of younger(Peewees) 99's and all 00's, if they followed MNH's advice of no checking until Bantams and staying away from (checking)AAA in the summer, right?

Will they have a checking clinic before tryouts?

No checking for the older bantams, again?

Elliot?

OMG! people, relax on the checking issue. Kids play 3X3 all the time and that's typically a no-checking league all the way up through bantams.

00s and 01s have been checking in various summer tourneys for two years now. They don't seem to end up in the state pen once winter rolls around.

the kids roll with it a heckuva lot easier than the parents, apparently.

it's not that big a deal, seriously.

Shin, I think what Bo and the rest of wonder is not about the ability of kids to go back and forth between checking and not checking, but rather the fact that some of these 99's have been checking for quite some time. I know first hand some of these boys are massive. Tryouts may be a fast learning curve for the checking clinic most associations did not provide.

Glad to see that there are others out there able to tap into the other 99.5% of their brain.

Their only choice is to go no checking.........., unless they go against their own advice.

It is not a big deal. Checking will not be a factor in selection of players. In fact, checking will probably mark against players if the procedures are similar to St Cloud for the 15's last year. The bigger and/or more physical kids were afraid to hit in fear of getting penalized.

said High Performance Director Mike MacMillan. “The 14/15 programs will offer these kids the chance to prepare players for future HP programs, and make an early impression on college and pro scouts. Not to mention gaining experience that may help them reach the National Festival when they return for the 15, 16 or 17 programs..”

Ummm, thank you, but no.

Hyping exposure to college and pro scouts for 13 (and 14) year olds is a really poor choice for a thinly veiled marketing effort.

Really? HP wants how much $ for a 13 year old to get early "exposure?" Are D1 committments going to be missed out on if a kid doesn't attend? How about a lucrative future pro contract?

But I'm sure this will all be run as a "break-even" camp... Purely done for the benefit of the kids and exposure.

Of cour$e it i$ about the kid$ for $ure. After all MN Hockey i$ only about the development of the kid$. We all know that and $hould be thankful that MN Hockey would decide to offer $uch a great program to younger player$. After all in MN Hockey world it$ all about the balance $heet! Hell maybe next year it will offer a program to 11 and 12 year old$. Hey it u$ed to be if you did not make it a$ a 15 you were wa$hed up! Not anymore! Forget ba$eball and enjoying the $summer. Get your check book$ out and get on the in$ide track of MN Hockey. After all it$ never too early to make a buck!

Yep, it's a racket. I saw this in person last year. Literally about 50-60 kids on the ice at a time at the Superrink. Even at $15 / hr for a single session, there is some serious bank to be made.

Maybe once you get through the impartial tryout system and get to the game weekend ... then that D1 scholarship will come in the mail.

I think HP with a birth year of 2000 is laughable...... In one breath USA Hockey say's do other things, yet they try to corn hole a kid whom hasn't even hit a major growth spurt into the HP program....... :P

IMO...wasting time and money on a few who have grown quicker then their peers....and whom might not grow much more.

When does USA Hockey ever do that? Guess I missed it.

I think he meant "pigeonhole"; corn hole meant something completely different when I was growing up.

Okay, but when has USA Hockey tried to pigeonhole a 12-year-old player?

I'm sure Marty is capable of speaking for himself, but I read it as saying 12 might be a little young to crown some youngsters as "high performance" and some youngsters as "not". I think if he'd have said MH, rather than USAH, it would be more meaningful. They abstained from USAH select 14's, but now have "select 13's or 12's"?
