The number of goals given up vs. the # of games played I believe.

<img src=

HERE YOU GO.

Goals-against average is the number of goals allowed per full game played, rounded to two decimal points. To get the number, multiply the total number of goals allowed by 60 and divide by the total number of minutes played. For example, if you have allowed four goals in 180 minutes your GAA is 1.33 (4 times 60 is 240. 240 divided by 180 is 1.33). The result suggests that for every full game you play, you will allow 1.33 goals.

Is that a goals per hour or goals per game formula? <img src=

Yes, hawk you are right.

Number of minutes played divided by number of minutes per standard game (20 for college, 17 for HS, D16 youth 17 minutes, others may vary) equals number of games played.

Goals given up divided by number of games played equals
Goals Against Average.

easier way to do it...number of games/number of goals allowed (doesnt count empty net goals) say you play 1 minute of overtime in your fourth game. in the four games you have given up 4 goals. You do 4 1/51 divided by 4.

_________________

BOB

Getting a bit redundant here, but this is the formula I entered in my stat spreadsheet.

GAA=Goals Allowed / (Minutes Played/51)
